Gaven, Schelotto, Hejduk's for 1/31...

Crew SC's Brazilian consultant hanging out at Mapfre in his twitter pic

Gaven, Schelotto, Hejduk's: Are the top Crew contemplations of the day. If you're new to the Crew... Video example of what is a Gaven, Schelotto, Hejduk .

Former Crew players Jason Garey and William Hesmer rep North Carolina bid.

3 out of 12 teams to apply for MLS expansion today are Indianapolis, Cincinnati, and Detroit.

Hold up a sec... 12 American cities have bidded to pay $150 million for a soccer team? Are you sure?

I'm hopeful in an away fan way at least two neighbor clubs get it. Link.

I prefer Indy and Cincinnati. Because unless Detroit is somehow Detroit City FC in some way  then they rotate from the top to the bottom of that list for me. Story here.

As not ideal if MLS ruins a very cool atmosphere in North America, pisses off legit soccer fans, and replaces it with another Los Angeles FC or Atlanta United. A bit plastic.

I, as anyone, would like some closer rivals regardless though. Think Cincinnati may get a bit intense since they are already convinced of their infinite magic.

But, in another Crew regard, this is a bit interesting.

Apparently the Crew have someone in Brazil 24/7...

One Ricardo Moreira. Who showed up on an ESPN Brazil, soccer show today talking about the Columbus Crew and their future work in Brazil.

And his role in Brazil as a full time consultant for them.
More in depth comments he made about his role with Columbus are here.

And here is Ricardo on twitter with a very Crew-like picture.. If you think he's just a random guy that showed up on a ESPN Brazil, TV show and made it up. 😊

Overall, think the Crew can't live down there almost signing of Zeca in 2015, link.

Looking to sign another Zeca for real this time..

Hopefully it's worth it in some way. Got to like the effort though. No?

Upcoming schedule

I, along with others, were incorrect that the Crew were facing off against Moreira's former club Audax.

The upcoming schedule of note is..

Thursday, February 2nd. Ghana, Afful vs. Cameroon at 2 PM in the AFCON Semifinal

Friday, February 3. Crew SC vs. Gremio Osasco
Monday, February 6. Crew SC vs. Ituano
I wonder how someone could screw that up?

Gremio Osasco                                         and Gremio Osasco Audax

1/31/17: The Crew Scouting, Searching Partnerships in Brazil

Ricardo Moreira registra encontro com o Rei Pelé
Crew consultant Ricardo Moreira with Pele.

The Crew apparently have a consultant working in Brazil. One, Ricardo Moreira who was a soccer executive of Osasco Audax previously. The same Audax the Crew have yet to play, but will while in Brazil.

Berhalter mentioned Audax, currently runner-up of the Campeonato Paulista, often last week in a ESPN Brazil video starting at 2:03. I think you can take the hint that Audax may be the unofficial partner so far.

Moreira said the following about his efforts with Columbus,

"The projects include the exchange of athletes and technical commissions between the Crew and clubs in Brazil, as well as the dispute of friendlies, sharing of athletes' data among club scouts , as well as the participation of the Columbus base teams in competitions such as the 2017 edition of the Belo Horizonte Cup of Junior Football."

"Among the opportunities we are trying to create for Columbus here in Brazil, sharing information between clubs is the one that is most advanced at the moment. While on the one hand Brazilian clubs can help Columbus with the athletes exchange, the American team can contribute, among other things, to management techniques and performance analysis of athletes," he said.

"An example of the work done by Columbus is by scouting Zeca, currently on our national team. He's at Santos, but was identified by the club's scouts and only did not move to the United States because, two days before the trip, Dorival Junior arrived and gave an opportunity to the side. "The rest is history," he concludes.

In addition, Ricardo Moreira hired a specialist in prospecting athletes to identify and present names of possible reinforcements for the team aiming at the next MLS season. The person in charge of this analysis is Leonardo Baldo, ex-member of the Corinthians Intelligence Center.

"The Corinthians Intelligence Department is a reference in Brazil, not for nothing does CBF use the services of the professionals of the club to better know the performance of the athletes. Baldo has experience in the prospection and screening of South American athletes and we are doing this scan by Continent to, if all goes well, point players to Columbus from January 2017. The United States market is attractive and we want to take advantage of that growth to target top-level players to the club."

One good thing is we learn more about the club when they're in Brazil. 😌 Exciting and interesting. Moreira was also on Brazilian ESPN discussing such, link here.

1/30/17: Gaven, Schelotto, Hejduk's for 1/30

Gaven, Schelotto, Hejduk's: Are the top Crew contemplations of the day. If you're new to the Crew... Video example of what is a Gaven, Schelotto, Hejduk .

Keep it classy Brazil
The above is from a twitter account for a SPFC fan website, "This Columbus Crew s@#t sucks, it's explained."

I guess ESPN Brazil (translated link here) were not so impressed by the Columbus Crew yesterday either...

As the following article started off:

Many may question the relevance of playing a training game against a much inferior team technically, as Sao Paulo did on Sunday morning in Cotia, when they ended up thrashing the United States' Columbus Crew 7-0.

Well, were making a good name with future Brazilian, MLS recruits.

We're technically much inferior than someone?
Don't tell Berhalter. 😊

But, like anyone that's a fan of the Crew care more about team building. Which I think this will in the end achieve

Especially with our sturdy Stromgodset pipeline. Who cares, were set. They just need to be much more together this year.

Team building... That is the biggest thing that can be achieved on this trip.

And some awkward pictures.

Justin Meram with Iraq.

I try not to talk politics on here. This is a soccer website. I don't care who you voted for or neither do you as it goes with me.

But, Meram with Iraq in regards to Trump is a concern when your international career could be hurt for a little by an immigration policy. For what?

And by a little won't last because Americans won't stand for it. FYI, all of us came from immigrant families at some point in our ancestry. So, kind of kills the idea of America.

From The Huffington Post:

No Major League Soccer players were born in the seven countries listed in Trump’s order, but two have ties. Steven Beitashour of Toronto FC is an Iranian-American dual citizen who has played for Iran’s national team. Columbus Crew’s Justin Meram, similarly, was born in the U.S. but has played for the Iraqi national team. It’s unclear how the order might affect either player. An MLS spokesperson declined to comment on the issue Sunday.

Michael Bradley, the captain of the U.S. Men’s National Team and Beitashour’s teammate in Toronto, said in an Instagram post Sunday that he is “sad and embarrassed” by Trump’s refugee ban.

It won't stand when you have public figures, even Steve Kerr whose dad was killed by terrorism speaking out against it:

Overall, Meram should get the credit for doing WHAT HE HAS DONE. I'm sure there has been tough moments at times on both ends of that.

Give him credit for putting himself out there. An American that plays for Iraq.

I'm sure he is proud as anyone with Iraq roots would be and should be.

Image result for Justin Meram Iraq

I'm sure it will all work out in the end. I also think Trump should just do nothing for a few weeks.

Had to change my start page because I was tired of seeing articles lately. Speaking of which, here's another article 😉 of others that could be affected in professional leagues.

Gaven, Schelotto, Hejduk's for 1/29...

Wil Trapp shakes off US early return, plays today in preseason friendly vs. Sao Paulo

Afful plays 90 minutes for Ghana in AFCON Quarterfinal today vs. Congo. Ghana wins 2-1

Crew SC's Jonathan Mensah and Afful celebrate afterwards:
Question does Mensah make these inspirational tank tops? 😊 Look him up on Instagram someday.

Congrats to both and good luck against Cameroon in the semifinals.
Crew SC gets welcomed back to soccer, 7-0 pounding against Sao Paulo FC this morning

Here's a description of the game from a few Brazilian sources, Link 1 and Link 2.. Wasn't any mention anywhere of Crew game rosters. Just what SPFC did and who scored for them.

Later in the day, SPFC were kind 😆 enough to post highlights.

Not concerned a week in other than our score is similar to how Boca Raton FC of the National Premier Soccer League did against Sao Paulo in the Florida Cup the week prior.

Boca Raton lost 9-2. And well, at least they scored.
Dope logo
Personally worked for a team in the PDL before.

And even though there is no distinction in the 4th division and on by US Soccer, NPSL where Boca plays is somewhere below PDL.

So, on one hand scary we couldn't do any better; as I've seen PDL level a far bit too close.

On the other hand, Abu got to camp on Day 2 or Day 3; Cristian Martinez and Abuchi were signed on Day 3; The starting RB and CB are in Africa; and about 10 guys are new. So, if you expected Barcelona a week in. God bless you.

Also, well Sao Paulo play in Brazil Brazil are usually better than the US at soccer 😏. For example, just look at SPFC transfer news this week.

Cueva - São Paulo

SPFC were offered $5 million for Cueva who played today (above) by Orlando City which is in no way shabby by MLS standards and that was rejected.
Juventus offered $5 million today for another.

I think we got half that once for Giancarlo... So, I was hopeful maybe for a 3-1, 4-0 loss.

And well to be fair, we lost 4-0 and 3-0 in the two games.

Or 7-0 in total, as some Brazilians figure two games with separate players should be paired into one score. :whistling:😰

Berhalter didn't look too concerned after. Nor should he be a week in. Preseason is all getting fit to play. I would've been happier with 3-0, 3-1 but it's training.

Here's a link to a Sao Paulo gallery from the game, and the Crew's pictures:

Also, came across this story on Brazil's ESPN as well last night, which is the best info vid I've seen from training camp, actually is really good.

Brazil ESPN knows how to do soccer videos. Imagine that...

1/29/17: Crew Lose First Preseason Friendlies Against Sao Paulo FC 4-0 & 3-0

Sao Paulo FC had their way against the Columbus Crew in two 25 minute half games in Sao Paulo this morning...

Winning the first game 4-0..

With goals by Cícero, Thiago Mendes, Wellington Nem, & Chavez.

And the second 3-0.. With goals by Gilberto, Neilton and Wesley

1/29/17: Video of Training in Brazil

Found here on ESPN Brazil.

Today's Gaven, Schelotto, Hejduk's:
3. Sao Paulo fans mock Crew
2. AFCON BEST XI PLAYER AFFUL and Co. play Congo
1. Abuchi.

3. Sao Paulo fans mock Crew

One team has a pretty concrete plan as this ends their preseason.
And one is a bit of a who frankly knows?
But, I frankly hope the Columbus Crew do work after checking out these comments.. Link here.

Hope we win 3-0 considering.

If they're keeping score? 😃 From what I read tomorrow's game is four quarters of 25 minutes a piece very basketball Brazil. So a bit odd.

That will start the day off tomorrow at 9:30 a.m.

2. Then it's AFCON BEST XI PLAYER AFFUL and Co. vs. Congo. Link.

At 11 am. The winner will play Cameroon in the Semifinal.

Good luck to Mensah and Afful.

1. Abuchi

3. Well, what does our roster look like. Link here.

And what about now, lol..
2. Crew SC legend Steven Lenhart going to Japan...

Japan's fourth tier.

Man their level must be fierce in Japan.

From MLS to Japan's PDL
1. Wil Trapp doesn't make #USMNT roster

Terrible but really sort of expected as much as soon as was invited.

Kind of craptastic if he misses out on Brazil with the team because of it.

In his first three-plus days, Berhalter said, Abu has played "like he's been in the club for five years already." A lot of interesting stuff in this Erickson article with The Columbus Dispatch

Gaven, Schelotto, Hejduk's for 1/26

Gaven, Schelotto, Hejduk's: Are the top Crew contemplations of the day. If you're new to the Crew... Video example of what is a Gaven, Schelotto, Hejduk .

Today's Gaven, Schelotto, Hejduk's:
3. Are you the one?
2. Ratings for Afful, Mensah against Egypt.
1. Crew SC getting ready for Sao Paulo FC.

"We want to thank Abu for his efforts in Strømsgodset over several years. He has been a loyal and talented player who has always stood for and given his utmost for the club. Abu has been central for us for several seasons. This is in many ways a great story and a good image in cooperation with Manchester City. Now we want Abu to have continued success in the US."
-Jostein Flo, Strømgodset Sporting Director. Link here

3. Are you the one?

Former Crew SC draft pick Ben Sweat will fight for the last roster spot on NYCFC this preseason against 9 other players. Link here.

I don't get how that's productive? Why invite 10 players to preseason with the intent to only sign one?

Might just be better to pick one and go from there.

Well, good luck to Sweat.

2. Ratings for Afful, Mensah against Egypt, link here.

Harrison Afful LEFT-BACK 6/10
Blocked Egyptian goal-bound effort and made a number of crucial interceptions in a game which witnessed a lot of pace and muscle flair from the record-winners. He worked well on the laterals after switching to left-back.

Jonathan Mensah CENTER-BACK 5/10
Guilty of poor organization and failing to stamp his authority against Mohamed Salah and Co. The Columbus Crew man enjoyed few moments of success in the game.

Mensah looked a bit winded near the end. Wouldn't be shocked if Grant switches back in Quarterfinal. Could be and hopefully wrong.

What about this from Afful? Is it B.S. from Egyptian coach, raindrop, or real?
1. Crew SC getting ready for Sao Paulo FC
And Sao Paulo prepares for Crew SC.

Sao Paulo won the Florida Cup and wants to keep it going Sunday against Crew SC.

Wish they could stream the game.

Gaven, Schelotto, Hejduk's for 1/25...

Gaven, Schelotto, Hejduk's: Are the top Crew contemplations of the day. If you're new to the Crew... Video example of what is a Gaven, Schelotto, Hejduk .

Today's Gaven, Schelotto, Hejduk's:
3. New signing Mohammed Abu, in depth.
2. Crew SC's Afful, Mensah play full 90 for Ghana vs. Egypt
1. Crew SC signs Cristian Martinez, Abuchi Obinwa

Gaven, Schelotto, Hejduk's for 1/25 (a video version😉):

“The first thing is to show up and do my best. That’s why I’m here.”  -Cristian Martinez

"I’m just looking to train hard every day." -Abuchi Obinwa

3. New signing Mohammed Abu, in depth.

I took some snippets of Abu's interview with Alex Stec and placed them in the video version of Gaven, Schelotto, Hejduk's above. The full interview is here:

New highlight video of Abu is also below. That I think shows that he isn't going to be much of a backup likely, not a replacement just for another Mohammed... Saeid.

Actually out of all new Crew players his 82 club appearances over the last 3 seasons beats all other Crewborns 😉 quite tremendously.

His passing is ridiculous as well.. Saw that by another newer signing, Nicolai Naess.

2. Crew SC's Afful, Mensah play full 90 for Ghana vs. Egypt

I think Afful and Mensah both did okay. I'm pretty sure Afful was oddly playing on the left side.

Unfortunately for Mensah. I'm sure Grant wants to go back to the backline that gave him two shutouts. Will see.

Some small highlights I got from a rather interesting 90 minute streaming adventure:

1. Crew SC signs Cristian Martinez, Abuchi Obinwa

Rather interesting that after our last 19, 20 left the club last year and found success two days ago in Sweden by signing with GIF Sundsvall of their premier league, the Allsvenskan.

We sign a 19 year old...

And a 20 year old...

Cristian Martinez (the 19 year old) was with us all of last year and already has his first Crew goal.

But, Columbus made his loan from Chorillo permanent today by signing him outright.

The 20 year old, Abuchi Obinwa is from Columbus, Ohio and has played for Hannover 96 B since 2015, for three seasons.

Probably now looking to get closer to first team time.

1/25/17: New Signing Obinwa and His Age..

In July 2013, sixteen-year-old Columbus, Ohio-born Maduabuchi "Abuchi" Obinwa failed an MRI test when undergoing assessment to represent the Nigeria U17 team at the 2013 FIFA U-17 World Cup.

So, he may be 20 today or 24. 😊 It's not foolproof, yet close.

Here's what an MRI test is exactly in football, half way down this link.

Here's more on that, as Obinwa could play for Nigeria or the USA in the future. In depth story on the MRI in regards to Obinwa by BBC Sport.

I wish him the best. Like that he's from Columbus and I'm sure he's near 20. 😍

Has to have talent to play for US, wanted by Nigeria, signed for Hannover 96. Interesting though, either or still liking the new signing.

Gaven, Schelotto, Hejduk's for 1/24...

Gaven, Schelotto, Hejduk's: Are the top Crew contemplations of the day. If you're new to the Crew... Video example of what is a Gaven, Schelotto, Hejduk .

Today's Gaven, Schelotto, Hejduk's:
3. Abu a "Special Discovery Player.." Whatever that may be.
2. Avram Grant can pick playing DR Congo or Morocco in Quarterfinal.
1. Crew buying Cristian Martinez's rights.

3. Abu a "Special Discovery Player.."
Amortize or write off contract, extinguish fully.

MLS with all their finagled rules. Just glad it worked out for us this time, somehow. 🖒

2. Avram Grant's Ghana can pick playing DR Congo or Morocco in Quarterfinal.

A win or tie over Egypt tomorrow, would mean that Ghana would face Morocco in the Quarterfinals.

A loss to Egypt tomorrow, would mean they'd face the DR Congo.

Is there a better choice? Or should Ghana just leave it to fate...

Could Mensah play tomorrow if Grant isn't too worried either way?

1. Crew buying Cristian Martinez's rights.
Good I think.. Martinez has some talent.

He was on loan before from Panamanian side Chorrillo..

Should have an interesting offseason as a top player for Panama's U-20's... As he will play in the Concacaf U-20 Championship in February.

Let's just hope it doesn't go like our last 19, 20 year old.. Well, for Crew SC at least.

Monday, January 23, 2017

Gaven, Schelotto, Hejduk's for 1/23...

Gaven, Schelotto, Hejduk's: Are the top Crew contemplations of the day. If you're new to the Crew... Video example of what is a Gaven, Schelotto, Hejduk .

Today's Gaven, Schelotto, Hejduk's:
3. Crew SC headed to Sau Paulo, Brazil. First MLS team to train in Brazil during preseason or in general.
2. Two former Crew SC players now play for same club in Europe.
1. Mohammed Abu is now the Crew's 4th Ghanaian

3. Crew SC headed to Sau Paulo, Brazil. First MLS team to train in Brazil during preseason or in general..

2. Two former Crew SC players now play for same club in Europe.

As former Crew attacking midfielder Romain Gall was signed by GIF Sundsvall of Swedish Allsvenskan their premier league last night after a successful trial. He now joins former Crew player Kristinn Steindórsson at Sundsvall.

If you want a little more information about Gall's path. Wrote more about it here earlier today.

1. Mohammed Abu is now the fourth member of Crew SC Ghana SC, third new Ghanaian player acquired by the Crew this season

This was according to DrammensTidende writer Ola Niemannif who covers Abu’s current club Strømsgodset IF. Ola nice name stated the deal would be for two years with an option for a third.

Berhalter played coy link here, but the writer Ola is a pretty solid, reputable source close to Strømsgodset happenings.

“What I’ll say is we’ll probably have a player signing announcement this week and you’ll have to stay tuned,” said Gregg Berhalter.

A Strømsgodset fan reached out and said "absolute beast defensive midfielder when in form. Maybe you guys could restore his confidence and form."

Apparently Abu had a really strong 2014, part of 2015, and has tailed off with the rest of the Strømsgodset team lately. Full report by Strømsgodset fan on Abu here. Either way at least, unlike Mensah and Raitala, he has played a lot lately.

Abu has 82 appearances in the last three seasons with Strømsgodset, that beats Mensah's for the last 7 years in 77. Yikers 😳

Abu was also Crew SC's Ola Kamara's teammate from 2010 to 2012 at Strømsgodset.

I do like, appreciate this whole new scouting endeavor by Gregg Berhalter. Haven't noticed? Per chance luck? Eh.

Berhalter has had players he has reason to trust rep other possible players they've played with. Because there is no question he didn't ask Kamara about Abu and Afful about Mensah.
Image result for Afful Mensah
Mensah and Afful at 2014 World Cup
The move has Nordecke land going crazy with the Ghana and Gahanna stuff and etc. as it may not be unforeseeable for the Columbus Crew to have four Ghanaian international players playing in AFCON in 2018, 2019 if all goes well.

Ghanasoccernet.com has picked up the story as well to feel comfortable confirming it.
I find this sentence humorous in addition from Ghanasoccernet.com,

He will become the fourth Ghanaian at Columbus Crew as Harrison Afful, Joanthan Mensah, and Lalas Abubakar are all signed to the club with many Ghanaian supporters.

1/23/17: Mohammed Abu Fourth Ghanaian Crew Signing This Offseason According To Drammens Tidende

But, may have a bit more in common with a non-Ghanaian teammate, one Ola Kamara (below).

As him and Ola Kamara were teammates at Norwegian club Strømsgodset from 2010 to 2012.

Abu has been at Strømsgodset again since 2014, when Manchester City stopped loaning and owning him and he made the move permanent.

And now he'll follow Ola to Columbus.

The defensive midfielder was a Manchester City product for four years...

Because he lacked appearances for MCFC, perhaps why Abu has only four Ghana caps. But, only 25.

As with Afful, Mensah, Abu, and Abubukar... Crew SC may be looking to have the Ghana international backline one day. 😊

Finder of story:

1/23/17: Berhalter Make A Wrong Turn on Gall? Two Former Crew Players at Same Swedish Club

Image result for romain gall

After being selected in 2014, by Berhalter in the weighted allocation lottery.

The 21 year old Romain Gall was waived and released by Gregg Berhalter on February 12th, 2016.

Maybe the 19, 20 year old just needed a bit more time.

Or a start somewhere. Or something downhill to turn back up.

Either way.. Gall only received 3 Columbus Crew appearances in his nearly two years here, along with 12 for previous partner club, the Austin Aztex.

Since then Gall has played for Nyköpings BIS this past season of Division 1 Norra of Sweden Sweden's third division.

In 24 appearances, the midfielder had 9 goals.

That led to a trial with Sundsvall of the Allsvenskan and then a signing yesterday.

Romain Gall will be able to contribute offensively and is an exciting young player who can play in several positions. He is fast and has a good understanding of the game, say GIF Sundsvall's first-team coach Joel Cedergren.

Romain has shown that he has great qualities that we GIF Sundsvall sought after and together we will ensure that we get an amazingly good development both for him and for GIF Sundsvall in the Allsvenskan, say GIF Sundsvall's sporting director Urban Hagblom.

Story link here.

Not bad for a 21 year old American to land on his feet in the Swedish premier division. Think Berhalter may have played that wrong, but may be more of a MLS playing it wrong by having no good solution for reserves in MLS that are good.

Might've been for the best for Columbus and Gall. Good luck and good work to Gall.

The move also means...

Two Former Crew Players at Same Swedish Club

The move is a bit amusing for another reason. As Columbus Crew SC has two former Crew players that play in the same European club now, Kristinn Steindórsson and Gall.

I don't think anyone's second guessing Kristinn's bonjour though.

Columbus had two former players before in the same European league.

Ryan Finley for Næstved BK and Adam Bedell for HB Koge in the Danish 1st Division. Bedell is no longer on that roster.

But, on the same European club, that has to be a first right?

"It isn't ideal for fans, who then rush to judgment with every piece of new information because we're left to speculate, but this has much more to do with the club's lack of transparency than the lack of journalistic coverage. Erickson can sit outside Gregg's house every day and ask questions but I don't know if anyone is going to feel better about reading empty blog posts."

3. Ghana, Afful, Mensah group ending puzzle

(From left) Ghana's forward Asamoah Gyan, defender Harrison Afful and defender Daniel Amartey celebrating their win over Mali after their 2017 Africa Cup of Nations group D football match on Jan 21, 2017.

Thought perhaps Mensah would play against Egypt in the last match of Group D (Wednesday at 2 pm) since Ghana has already qualified. And he may still.

But, a win by Egypt over Ghana that day would lead to the Black Stars being 2nd in Group D and playing the winner of Group C.

Depends on how Avram Grant wants to play it and who he wants to face?

As everyone is still alive in the last day in Group C.

And Ghana will know what opponent a win could get them before Wednesday against Egypt; as Togo, Congo, Morocco, Ivory Coast all play on Tuesday.

I don't see Ghana dropping their last match for a particular opponent. 😇 But, if Ivory Coast wins wouldn't Les Elephants be the most dangerous opponent you would want to face least?

2. Wil Trapp gets hitched

Congrats to him. He has a lot in common with three other USMNT players in January camp that as well got married before camp 😈 woo

1. Crew SC get geared up for preseason in Brazil

As it appears the team got together to travel today.

Crew SC will play Sau Paulo FC, Audax Sau Paulo, and Ituano FC (also from Sau Paulo) when in Brazil starting tomorrow to February 8th.

Unknown yet whether any game will be viewable from the first round of preseason.

One would hope since it's amazingly simple to achieve.

Should fly me down 😎 I have a Canon 1080i and have produced 40 Division I college soccer games; as long as you have internet connection and a $600 dollar camera wala.

Quote of the Day:

Lol, worked out a bit better than some of my relations with Fire fans in 2008, 2009

3. Cristian Martinez played for Panama U-20's versus Canada U-20's today.

Panama won 2-1 over Canada.
And played them as well on January 19th and lost 1-0. The two friendlies were in preparation for next month's Concacaf Under 20 Men's Championship, Link.

Cristian Martinez looks set to figure prominently. As one of the top young prospects for Panama.

2. Afful played another solid 90 in second straight Ghana AFCON win.

Against Mali, Ghana scored early on in the 20th minute through Asamoah Gyan. And held on again second half.

Mali poured it on late, but Ghana succeeded at booking their place in the quarterfinal.

Give Mali credit as they were a bit more dangerous than Uganda was.

Ghana needed some smarts from their goalkeeper Razak and got them. Would be my MVP.

But, Afful as well was once again solid.
The question still is will we see another Crew international for Ghana, Jonathan Mensah, in this AFCON? He was surprisingly one of two regular starters left out of the first two games with Acquah.

Perhaps with Ghana already into the next round. The next game against Egypt, will see Mensah get a run and Afful getting a rest.

Avram Grant's thoughts on Ghana vs. Mali.

1. What is the best Crew SC goal ever?
I have to give it to Frankie Hejduk in MLS Cup 2008. Obviously, 😄 with the title of this daily as Gaven, Schelotto, Hejduk referencing that play.
