GSH's For 6/30.. Mensah, Afful recalled to Columbus Crew for Atlanta United game

Gaven, Schelotto, Hejduk: Three Crew SC-related social media topics of interest for today.

Recalled by Columbus Crew SC...

Perhaps the duo would be okay if this was a week that Berhalter didn't want them. 😅 Although Ghana's friendly will be against USA's rather so-so Gold Cup lineup. ↘ Link.

Goalkeepers (3): Brad Guzan (Atlanta United), Sean Johnson (New York City FC), Bill Hamid (D.C. United)
Defenders (8): Matt Besler (Sporting KC), Omar Gonzalez (Pachuca), Matt Hedges (FC Dallas), Eric Lichaj (Nottingham Forest), Matt Miazga (Chelsea), Justin Morrow (Toronto FC), Jorge Villafaña (Santos Laguna), Graham Zusi (Sporting KC)
Midfielders (9): Kellyn Acosta (FC Dallas), Paul Arriola (Club Tijuana), Alejandro Bedoya (Philadelphia Union), Joe Corona (Club Tijuana), Dax McCarty (Chicago Fire), Cristian Roldan (Seattle Sounders), Kelyn Rowe (New England Revolution), Kenny Saief (Gent), Gyasi Zardes (LA Galaxy)
Forwards (3): Juan Agudelo (New England Revolution), Dom Dwyer (Sporting Kansas City), Jordan Morris (Seattle Sounders)

Afful, Mensah will not play the USA on Saturday

Crew SC have blocked the participation of Ghanaian duo Harrison Afful and Jonathan Mensah in Saturday's international friendly against the United States.

Crew have recalled the duo from the team's camp, meaning they will be unavailable for the clash against the Yanks in Connecticut.

That's nice and all to put us first. But is it really that necessary?

I'm pretty sure that most Crew fans would be okay with a reintroduction of both Naess and Crognale for a week instead of Mensah and Williams. No offense to either but overall that has been better or if you want to be incredibly nice just as well. Right?

Could someone tell Berhalter who magically banishes players for no reason at certain times of the year?

I don't think Mensah is bad and won't become pivotal. But do I think he is first now because he is paid the most? Yes. Has he been the best center back? No. I would give that to Naess and then Crognale.

In addition, Afful's 2017 play hasn't been exactly captivating or dire.

Let them play the USA. Would be fine.

Oddly enough Abu will be the only one with a chance to play for Ghana on Saturday vs. the USA. Erickson's story on all.

Abu could have 2 international appearances in a week. Good for him as signing with the Columbus Crew is the best thing oddly to happen to his international career lately.

Meanwhile Ola Kamara has 25 goals in 43 games and can't even get a Norway call up in a friendly ever.

Funny how soccer works.

Someone also let Berhalter know that Manneh's first four minutes last week means he should be starting over Finlay at least currently.

I thought Ethan Finlay was a lot better than usual against Montreal. But goals and assists count the most, give him a run near the end.
