Ryan Jack.. GSH's for 4/28.

Gaven, Schelotto, Hejduk: Three Crew SC-related social media topics of interest for today.

Ryan Jack

Apparently the Columbus Crew are in the hunt for Aberdeen free agent Ryan Jack

I think he may fit right in.

The 25 year old Scot could be quite the player, although not sure why Berhalter always needs more DM's.

I'm looking forward to when...

You wear a Columbus Crew shirt and it's not a huge deal. Jk. πŸ˜„

Was pretty cool.

But, not too shocking if you want to rep Columbus on national tv.

What are you going to wear a Blue Jackets jersey? Clippers hat? Or Columbus Til' I Die?

Get back to winning.

NFL Draft, Steffen, and Long Balls. GSH's for 4/27..

NFL Draft

Taco Charlton repping Columbus in some Crew SC gear.

While being drafted by the Dallas Cowboys.

More response, link here.

Give some

Our goalkeeper when not on the field...

I bet

Raitala and Naess could have a nothing but net competition.

GSH's for 4/26..

Gaven, Schelotto, Hejduk: Three Crew SC-related social media topics of interest for today.

Here's my plan if I'm Mr. Vieira,

Do exactly what NYRB did.

Done deal

When you can't even come up with fitness or another excuse, I would bet it's definitely on the 3G mind.

But, Abu likely needs a few more chances to come to a definite conclusion; which is great and all as long as it doesn't cost wins.

Pipa's Happy

Did they forget to mention that it was Higuain's 125th regular season start as well? Nope they got it.

Not a big numbers guy. But, guess it's interesting if you are.

Either or should be happy with the assist count so far, Columbus overall has been good but needs to step it in gear a bit during this home stand in several positions.
Pipa, Trapp, and Meram have been one of three that have performed above expectation. New guys that have for me are Artur and Steffen especially. Followed close behind by Crognale.

The Real Story on Kekuta Manneh and Berhalter.. GSH's for 4/25..

Gaven, Schelotto, Hejduk: Three Crew SC-related social media topics of interest for today.

Kekuta Manneh

Was so tired of hearing "he's not physically fit enough yet" and "still in our plans."

Finally a bit closer to the truth in this article from Andrew King.

“I don’t think fitness is a problem for me,” Manneh said. “Do they play a bit differently? Yes. Does it require a bit more running than maybe I’m used to? Yes. But I think I’m 90-minute fit to play any game anywhere in the world. I’ve been fit to play since I’ve been here.”

Manneh played 136 minutes prior to coming here with Vancouver this season. Tony Tchani played 0 before going there. If anyone shouldn't have been fit enough to play should have been Tony Tchani.

But, since Tchani has 173 minutes for Vancouver. Plus, 26 in the Concacaf Champions League.

Manneh has 0. And zero.

Manneh left a tweet after being left in Columbus again this past week #ROCKBOTTOM.

Berhalter, who had previously pointed to Manneh’s lack of fitness as an issue, on Tuesday indicated that it was his performances in training that now needed to improve.

Perhaps eventually will get to the real problem...

As had a feeling this wouldn't go ideally when you have four starters and get a fifth guy that should likely be a starter as well.

The last guy that tried to replace Ethan Finlay is now in Spain.

The fact is Berhalter is not willing to sit anyone in the front four, even if Justin Meram is the only one that needs to be in there at all times.

Even when Ethan Finlay is near the bottom of where he can go, he still always requires at least 30 minutes.

Just got to fully decide one way or the other on him and that position.

Otherwise, you find yourself here.

Artur injury gives Abu opportunity

Yes!!! πŸ˜‹

You would get the sarcasm if you read Crew fan comments on BigSoccer, Reddit, or well anywhere after Saturday's game.

Even this article hinted to Naess as still an option at defensive midfield, Link.

If you trade for Manneh and he can't find a minute. But, totally fine with this sort of play..

Best of luck to us.

Chances are Manneh's first game cannot be that bad.

Something nicer please

After Artur, Keep the Brazilians Coming.. GSH's for 4/24..

Gaven, Schelotto, Hejduk: Three Crew SC-related social media topics of interest for today.

Rafael Longuine

Crew SC found some definite booty at Sao Paulo FC with Artur.

They almost captured further Brazilian gold from Santos FC with Zeca. Being days away from capturing the 2016 Brazil Olympic international player in the Summer of 2015.

Well they're apparently going back to Santos FC with another offer for possible depth for Higuain.

His IG:

Artur out 3 weeks.

So we have to get by without him at home where we have 3 wins and a tie.

If we had 3 more games on the road could be a quick tumble down the table. At least is manageable at Mapfre.

Just hoping they throw Naess in at DM. I don't think anyone was too impressed with Abu.

90 in 10.

If you like not fun things and care to relive Saturday.

😩 Just trying to be consistent.

A Tale of Two Teams

Let's start off with the good news.

The next three games are all at home.

We look not good on the road unless it's against DC United.

MLS's Gibraltar, San Marino of 2017 with the Philadelphia Union.

And unless were playing a three back formation; which in my opinion the Crew should've done last night, once again since NYRB plays with just one striker.

If you somehow luckily missed the game or Crew SC on the road at Houston and in general. Here's our highlights:

Thankfully we can disregard for a while back at the friendly MAPFRE confines.

Regarding lets sell out or give away a lot of tickets for the May 6th game against Kei Kamara at home.

Don't you play here?

Yeah Nordecke has nothing on that atmosphere.

The bad...

Mohammed Abu is not Artur. Basically, he has stunk so far every time he has approached the field.

-Kyle Crew

I had to post because hit it right on the head with everything for last night.

Here's a weird idea. How about Marshall Hollingsworth with Wil Trapp if you have to recall a Riverhounds loanee for a reason. As not sure why we recalled Lalas if he's not playing here currently?

Doesn't Marshall play midfield or defensive midfield? Well what he did last night looks a tad bit more interesting, scintillating to me than Abu currently.

Guy has been getting Man of the Matches for Riverhounds, assisting, and well doing the above. If he ever deserves a chance is now. Think he may surprise.

Whereas, think it could be a very long couple of months for Trapp otherwise.

Gee, should I even say.. πŸ˜„ Might be nice to have Tony Tchani right now. Since the guy we traded him for, Kekuta Manneh, still can't make the starting 18. Don't even worry about the starting eleven.

Well it is his fitness since he played 150 minutes before being traded here this season. πŸ˜’

But, since Berhalter apparently thinks Manneh can play anywhere in the top four positions including striker... May have been damn nice to bring him on for 30 at the end for Ola who forgot finishing last night with two of these.

I love Ola but sometimes it isn't your game. May have been god being like "hey about those Norway comments."

Or you could've brought Manneh on in the 60th for Niko instead of Ethan Finlay.

Oh I forgot the world ends if Ethan Finlay doesn't get 30 minutes.

I think Ethan Finlay is deep down a good player and can give us something. But, Berhalter has to decide if he is still that player for us or not and make a decision.

Instead of bringing in a possible replacement that can't make the 18. Just strange. Not going to be a good situation in the locker room either way eventually.

How about another good thing? Were still in 1st place if Orlando City doesn't show up today.

Regardless, the Crew need to resolve their road form after this home stand.

Crew SC vs. Red Bulls: Keys To Approaching, Achieving a Nordeckian πŸ˜ƒ Result of Masterpiece Tomorrow Against RBNY

The Talk Buildup

“The one quality that Steve Clark had for the way they play is that he had the best feet coming out of the back, like he was the first attacker,” said Marsch. “Steffen has good feet, but not as good, so it puts more on their defensive three including Wil Trapp -when he drops with the center backs and is not able to spread the field as much. They will try to create overloads and match-ups and we will be there to try and stop it.”

Clark is better out of the back, has better feet than Steffen? Hmm.. That's kind and all but sure I have a highlight or five to dispute that.

Berhalter is also concerned with that part of the field and the Red Bulls' press against the Crew's back 6 or 7 field players.

"They're space orientated, put more pressure on the ball, they block lanes and it's difficult to play through."

"But, how long can they hold up doing that? How long can we move them around? Yet, it's fun against the Red Bulls because is a challenge."

"With their pressure we have to hold onto the ball better, play quicker, and be comfortable dealing with their pressure." -Artur

Definitely the Crew's main focus. The Red Bull pressure farther up the field compared to most teams.

RBNY is willing to challenge right away instead of letting Crew SC have free reign with the ball. See Orlando City 1st half at Crew SC or many teams.

Most just let Columbus take charge. Red Bulls, Marsch look to challenge that.

The Crew also need to keep the Red Bulls set pieces to a minimum or their success on set pieces.

“We know they have a lot of quality on set pieces (see their first goal last week), good plays, as you’ve seen throughout the year, they can hurt a lot of teams on set pieces, so we have to be tuned in 110 percent on set pieces against them," said Justin Meram.

Therefore, the keys are:

Set pieces..

And the battle between the Crew's back 6, 7 field players V. NYRB pressure as that is where everything offensively will begin either way.

Who's winning that will win the game.

“They are a very good team. What’s great about them: they have a philosophy, a way of playing. We’ve seen that in the last game, they kind of adapt their play - not playing as much from the back, but they still have a lot of technical quality in defense and in offense to be very dangerous,” said Aurelien Collin.

But not more technical quality compared to last year?

Lineup Last Time Out for RBNY

In a 2-0 win at home against DC United.

MLSSoccer.com was even perplexed/thought the Red Bulls were going with the 4-2-2-2 again.

But, actually the last time out the Red Bulls re-debuted a 4-2-3-1 (as I guess DC United is the fun team to roll out new formations against) with Klejstan more in the middle, Muyl on the right, Royer on the left.

Here's an explanation in Andrew Erickson's article:

After experimenting with a 4-2-2-2 at times early this season, New York reverted back to a 4-2-3-1 against D.C. United. The result: a 2-0 victory, New York’s first since March 11.

“I think (a 4-2-3-1 puts Kljestan) in a role in which he can influence the game more because he’s very good at doing that, so by playing a 4-2-3-1, it gives him an opportunity to be in spots where he can make that final pass and get towards goal more and make his teammates look better,” Berhalter said. “I think in the 4-2-2-2 with him playing wide, I think it takes him away from where he needs to be to be effective," said Berhalter.

Crew's Last Lineup

Crewture's Expected Lineup for this Game
Hmm.... today's future? I think DP's have a perhaps weird priority to be on the field if they can regardless? And Crognale and Naess can't be taken off the field currently either. Would be totally ridiculous to sit either now with their form

Anyway, in Week 3 the last time the Crew played 3 CB's think Crognale, Mensah, Naess happens against DC United if Mensah wasn't out then thanks to a red card.

And the matchup kind of works if Red Bulls have Bradley Wright-Phillips up top alone. If you wanted to play 3 back on occasion this season a sole forward CALLS FOR IT compared to 2 forwards or 3 forwards.

Berhalter should send Marsch a "thank you card" for it after.

The 3 back formation may finally give Manneh a chance AS WELL to play a role. A change of formation may seem like less of a snub to Finlay or his replacement last game Niko.

May be a good excuse for using or needing Manneh.

Maybe Finlay only gets 30 minutes every game regardless because if not the world will end tomorrow... Or this time that 30 minutes at the end goes to Higuain and he gets a little breather in the beginning of this game..

Before someone gives me crap for wanting to sit Higuain out at the start of one game

Remember the guy is 32.
Has been kicking ass (like an assist gangster) so maybe not wear it out.
Think we may need him for 27 more games...

The last time we played three backs in Game 3 against DC..

Yet I think we shake this 3 back formation up quite dramatically where it becomes very hard for the opponent to know what to expect. My prediction:

What do you think tonight calls for? What is your lineup?

GSH's for 4/20..

Ben Swanson

Gaven, Schelotto, Hejduk: Three Crew SC-related social media topics of interest for today.

The 19 year old Grove City, Ohio native has had an injury that was season ending twice in two seasons.

As last year he was out after a July 29th shoulder injury.

I'm sure this is not the way Swanson imagined his first Crew years going. But, guy is 19.

Most American soccer pros don't begin a career until they're 22 and graduated college.

Swanson started at 17.

Just got to keep going, keep the head up. Looked good for Riverhounds.

Not a bad decision looms
Berhalter not too flummoxed with good decision a or b.

“Again, we see (center back depth) as a positive. When I look at Josh Williams, how he’s performed, Lalas (Abubakar), I think he’s doing a good job in training, then Alex and Nico, together with Jonathan, we’re comfortable at the center back position. We need numbers at that position, especially when we’re going to play with three in the back.”

Especially when we play three in the back..
Once this year. πŸ˜‰

Would be more desperate and troubling if we were currently terrible without Mensah. As we were without Sauro the previous year.

I don't see as a problem.

Get behind your first pro team

Sad in my opinion if one can't.

Like $20 bucks.

Also, who knows if 2000 happens and if one could lose drastically to the Penguins without the other in 96.

Just saying one of the most unique and best fan experiences in America in my opinion. πŸ‘

In your backyard.

I would rob a bank for that compared to it being 3 hours away.

Quotes of interest:
I mean that's nice of Crew SC. But, personally have a great Portuguese teacher.

And on the New York end..

“Columbus has had a good start to the year, they’ve altered a few things tactically. They’ve had some home games and they’ve done well in those games and kept their leads. They look solid this year, so it will be a big challenge for us - and stylistically it will be a game that is in opposing styles in many ways, so that always creates a good challenge for us.”
-Red Bulls Manager Jesse Marsch.

GSH's for 4/19..

Gaven, Schelotto, Hejduk: Three Crew SC-related social media topics of interest for today.

Time in Norway for Ola and Nicolai?

Ola Kamara has 7 international appearances for Norway. The last time was in 2014.

Since Ola has been with Crew SC has there been a better Norwegian striker out there? Anyone else with 20 goals in 32 appearances?

No worries for 86th ranked Norway.

“And then U.S. players (from MLS) are playing for a highly-ranked national team and we are ranked (No. 86) in the world and me and Nico can’t play (for Norway)?” Kamara said. “It’s weird, but of course we have good players in Norway as well. It’s a goal for both of us, I think."

Probably deserve a call before Norway has absolutely no chance to qualify for Russia. Already close to that.

Only 15 more points to fight for and even behind Azerbaijan.

Good on Ola as they deserve some notice.

I don't even think Ola's got going yet this year
And still has 4 goals in 7. Only two behind Golden Boot lead.

I feel like May was a good month for him last year. πŸ˜‰πŸ˜‰ And will get really going in May again just in time to get called up against the Czech Republic in June.

Hasn't had a bad start. Just don't feel he's at 100 percent yet this year.

Don't know if it's a shocker for no call ups yet for Naess, although now deserved too.

But, 20 goals in 32 appearances in just about any league deserves a call up.

Time for yard work.

GSH's for 4/18..

Gaven, Schelotto, Hejduk: Three Crew SC-related social media topics of interest for today.

It's a new sort of bugatti.

Remember this play in my 90 in 10.

Yet didn't realize dude did a full sprint from being involved offensively on a corner kick to his own 18 yard box to stop a Toronto chance.

I thought maybe he came from midfield. 😯 Nope.

Can we just give them the upper deck?

No one sitting there anyway.

One of the things I liked about 2008, 2009. Battle wasn't completely won on flares yet or some fans didn't notice. πŸ˜‰

They should just build a kids Nordecke, a college OSU Nordecke, a soccer mom Nordecke, a old folks Nordecke... And just keep going.

Barring the first, everyone has flares and just goes crazy.

GSH's for 4/17..

With AC Horsens of Danish Superliga.

Gaven, Schelotto, Hejduk: Three Crew SC-related social media topics of interest for today.

Steve Clark

Clark is doing well so far in Denmark. All of his highlights this year are listed here on r/Massive.

AC Horsens standings.

Would like the move, before and after Steve Clark, to work out in a positive way for everyone. Appears that 4-5 months in, couldn't go much better for Clark (starting in Danish Superliga) and the Crew (Steffen doing well).

Image result for Steve Clark yes!

Riverhounds on the weekend.

Riverhounds had another so-so performance, in a 1-1 draw at last place Charlotte.

After dropping a 2-1 result at home to St. Louis on Wednesday. Link.

The only positive from the two games is Kay Banjo scored in both.

The only Crew player to play a role this weekend was Marshall Hollingsworth for 20 minutes.

The weekend prior the Riverhounds had four Crew players play. 3 starting (Lalas Abubukar, Marshall Hollingsworth, & Ben Swanson); another (Abuchi Obinwa) playing most of the game for an injured Swanson.

That game, on the road, was the Riverhounds only win on the year against Charleston.

So, why call back Abubukar?

Crew could and sort of need to send 3 or 4 players there currently not getting a sniff (Abubukar, Jahn, Martinez, Jimenez, Duka). Why not? Could be a better change of pace for them even.

Think Pittsburgh would sure as hell improve.

Pittsburgh, five games in, still holds onto the last playoff spot. But they have to get going.

Does Berhalter think only his presence can improve Crew players?

I think playing does more regardless.

Naess makes MLS Team of the Week

Naess was about as solid as every other week. Glad to see him get recognized.

Meram is no surprise.

Crew vs. TFC was finding a way

With four goals a piece, Justin and Ola have 8 out of the Crew's 11 on the season. Picture: Greg Bartram/ USA Today

After Chicago last week, made the statement "well, could've gone the other way."

That likely was generous. We deserved a tie at best

Yet, Crognale and Hansen almost (almost- a word that doesn't count for much) had goals second half at Chicago.

Could say exactly the opposite last night. That game could've ended with a Toronto FC victory.

Was a dog fight, a battle and the Crew came out. Clawed their way out of an Armageddon hideout.. to 3 points.

That's why I find that game quite satisfying; as doesn't happen last year.

Nevertheless, currently we go down at home to Toronto, Portland and still find a way to get the crucial three points.

The win is 10 out of 12 points at home in 2017. If Crew SC can get it done at home, in front of the Nordecke, they will be much better than alright. See 2008's record.

On travels, get ties on the road stay near .500 and were cool.

Currently the Crew are in a stretch of 10 Eastern Conference opponents in a row. Toronto was game 3 out of those 10 games.

So far Columbus is 2-1. If they get near 9-1, 8-2, 7-3. Could put themselves in a desirous, envious position very early on in the East.

The two teams from New York (New York and New Jersey) come up next.

They currently rank as teams 5 and 4 in the East. With good results we could create some space between ourselves and the lower playoff selections.

Crewture 90 in 10:
