Artur Arrives, Martinez In Concacaf U-20 Action. GSH's for 2/28.

Artur (left) arrives in Columbus yesterday. Martinez plays Honduras U-20's last night.

Cristian Martinez's Panama U-20's are defeated 2-0 by Honduras

Things went better though for the US U-20's who defeated Mexico 1-0.

Crew SC's Martinez played 76 minutes last night before being substituted by Andres Penalba.

Martinez and company need to beat Costa Rica in Costa Rica on Friday.

A win there would resurrect their chances of going to the U-20 FIFA World Cup later this Spring.

Unfortunately the loss means Panama likely cannot win the U-20 Concacaf tournament. But, the really important thing is FIFA World Cup qualification.

Artur makes it to Columbus

As of yesterday, on his Instagram, he posted a picture of himself at Mapfre Stadium.

Where does he begin? On loan? Or does he play a part in a few weeks?

Nice scarf

I'll take one of those.

Pittsburgh, Your Starting XI, Mix Diskerud. GSH's for 2/27

Marshall Hollingsworth scores in preseason for Pittsburgh. Swanson and him start and play 2nd half.
Hollingsworth scored a goal for the Riverhounds against the University of Akron on Saturday, scoring in the 53rd minute.

Crew SC's Swanson and Hollingsworth are there on loan on a game-by-game basis.

I'm sure Berhalter has a date circled for perhaps sending more out or bringing one of those two back in. See anyone else joining?

Pittsburgh Soccer Report had a great little video surrounding Saturday's action:

Additionally, another former Crew player Rich Balchan (above) played for the Pittsburgh Riverhounds in the first half as he's on trial there too. Riverhounds link.

Crew fans pick next Saturday's Starting XI

Here are the results of fans expected Crew XI on The Massive Reddit, link here. And you can join in and pick yours as well.

Zack Steffen, Harrison Afful, Wil Trapp, Federico Higuain, Justin Meram, Ethan Finlay, and Ola Kamara are basically shoe in's for the fans. Wouldn't be astonished if all got starts.

Would be much more surprised if any started on the bench. Other than Ola perhaps from an injury.

I go a little differently. I'm number 157 out of 163 currently on that list.

My lineup:

I'm just one out of two that does not put Federico Higuain at attacking mid on the poll. And only one to put Niko there. ๐Ÿ˜„

I'm sure either Niko or Cristian will come in quite often for Pipa and/or Finlay late in games. And wouldn't find that unexpected next week, Niko deserves 20 minutes.

But, really like his speed. Niko has another gear and can finish chances. Promising for once, at least, that we can groom a Higuain replacement in a few years with Niko and/or Martinez.

Also, I like Naess. Believe he has a calming influence that may be more of use in defensive midfield and since we have 40 CB's why not.

Just last season was never awed by either DM's often. But, actually for me was impressed more by Tchani compared to Trapp.

However, instead of trying something new. We know what will occur. Some players in some spots until end of time for Berhalter.

Thankful that Berhalter didn't get Mix Diskerud when he tried

What the hell is this?
Sounds like he gave up on soccer to become the next G-Eazy. Dude, tries so hard to be extravagant, wild thinking Scandinavian guy or smokes some pot.

When they ask for your story on US Soccer, don't talk about the honor or your family or your road. Talk about juggling, cats, and hats. Ok? ๐Ÿ˜…

We'll probably sign him now from NYCFC. Berhalter has such a man crush on anyone from Scandinavia and were Columbus, so I can still see that happening.

One Trophy. GSH's for 2/26..

Atlanta United doesn't count for much as an expansion side and the Battery are in the USL. But, Columbus looked much better in Charleston compared to the MLS Cup champs Seattle. Had most of the possession last night as well.

Gaven, Schelotto, Hejduk's:
Are the top Crew contemplations of today. If you're new to the Crew... Video example of what is a Gaven, Schelotto, Hejduk.

What to take from yesterday. First off a congrats to Crew SC, a small one but progressing.
A better go of things result wise in Carolina compared to Brazil.

Which could be expected.

Yes, Brazil was just for "Welcome to the Season" fitness. But, fans are still fans and won't take kindly to a 7-0 loss or 3-0 to Gremio Osasco.

But, figured it would turn into something good relatively soon and did.

Yeah I think Hansen's near goal against Charleston was a nice finish too. Just couldn't get it with the angle.
At least perhaps Finlay has someone behind him to make him think this year.

Your starters.

I think you can take quite a bit from last night's lineup rather obviously.

First off, Stuver wasn't on the bench, along with nearly no one else. So, Steffen won the starting job; as well as nearly everyone else on the field to begin the game.

Good. Berhalter's can see the same as the fans have there.

But, it's good to have Steffen fight for it a bit.

That back line looks so much better, just reading off the names compared to Parkhurst, Wahl, Jimenez, etc. most of last year.

The only switch or two next week is perhaps.. 1.) Ola if he can go and 2.) maybe Tchani, could still have a fighting chance at a spot next week. Depends if Berhalter liked Abu to start yesterday or no.

Love seeing this every day.
Haha waiting for someone to change Acura logo into Accra on Photoshop. Accra, Ghana is the capital of Ghana. Afful mentions that he likes new sponsor because of that here:

Sounders Game, Martinez Gets a Nice Assist, Uni's.. GSH's for 2/25

So the Crew must have the new kits on them.. Will they debut today or in opener? Which would be better?

Gaven, Schelotto, Hejduk's: Are the top Crew contemplations of today. If you're new to the Crew... Video example of what is a Gaven, Schelotto, Hejduk.

Against Sounders today.

1.) Starters will play for 90 where they can. As close to as possible to what you can expect for opener.

2.) Berhalter will try his best to get Ola on the field for his first preseason match.

But, if he can't go today, will he next week? Interesting how bad his concussion truly is? Did he not play as well in Brazil? Confused by this in Erickson's article:

That plan remains intact, but Saturday's cast of players will likely include a couple understudies. One question entering the exhibition match centers on whether forward Ola Kamara will play his first preseason match.

That's at least more comforting to me with no goals but a PK in Brazil. Because if we lose 7-0 to SPFC, I would expect us to at least lose 7-1 with an Ola Kamara goal at least. ๐Ÿ˜„ Was more surprised he didn't get a goal by being on the field in Brazil. But, guess he wasn't?

3.) Crew have a plane on stand-by for Artur. But, I'm guessing no Artur yet or for a while? And if he was here he wouldn't play today considering point 1.

4.) Some positions up for grabs, but Berhalter won't say which ones. Shocker.

But, doesn't take incredible psychic powers.

I'm guessing it's basically which formula of 3 or 4 backs will start next week, other than Afful.

And goalkeeper.

5.) Martinez won't be on roster next week. He'll either have a Final to play in for Panama next Sunday or will just be returning to Columbus on Saturday.

Cristian Martinez with a nice assist, Panama moves on with relative ease to next round.

Really nice assist by Cristian yesterday, scroll to 55 seconds above, as Panama cruises onward. They'll face Honduras on Monday in the next round in Costa Rica.

With a very new U-20 coach, in his third week, Panama must be feeling pretty good winning their group over the USA.

In the two games I've watched Martinez looked solid and obviously was performing just as well yesterday.

Out of the three teams in their group, Panama has performed the best so far in this tournament.

Either/or excellent prep for the season for Martinez, Berhalter must feel.

Full Uniforms.

Some were asking about the shorts and the full uni's after yesterday's announcement. Since the shorts weren't shown.

As over the last year, what really put the exclamation point on last year's jerseys being not so hot were the light blue shorts.

No worries. All yellow, all black.

From  Erickson's Crew Cuts:
"It's clean. It looks strong. It's got a beautiful yellow to it, the cut is wonderful," he said. "It's not overdone, it's not in-your-face and it's not too much."
Designer Kevin Glenn said the inclusion of the checker pattern down the sides of the kit was risky but paid off.
"There's a fine line between referencing our checkered flags in the Nordecke and creating a taxi cab pattern," he said. "(In this case) it's small but recognizable."

I would be flattered. I mean if LeBron and company want a little of us by all means.

I would like to meet them all. And possibly interview them at the opener next week about "their disappointment." Would be sort of hilarious.

Could probably fit them into a small closet or dorm room.

2/25/17: Acura Makes Sense

I'm from Northwestern Pennsylvania and for me Acura sort of fits Columbus or the dreams and aspirations of most there a bit more than a bearded construction worker using his Barbasol daily and his Glidden paint on his DYI projects.*  *unless that's tifosi ๐Ÿ˜‰

If that disappoints you. Ok. I mean anyone can and does use Barbasol to shave and Glidden to paint. And thanks to both for their partnerships.

Columbus, Ohio isn't Montauk or something obviously ๐Ÿ˜Š. But, neither is it the definition of blue collar people doing tons of manual labor akin to a construction crew ahem prior logo, factory worker, or a farmer.

Nothing wrong with that work. Grew up in a place that is more that work near Meadville, Pa. Most of my college jobs were that. But, to me Columbus is more of a start up, idea generating type of place.

The construction crew Columbus Crew never stated that their sponsors were because of being a blue collar construction crew logo-ed club. But, if you were a construction worker you may be I don't know sponsored by Glidden paint and Barbasol shaving cream ๐Ÿ˜ƒ, if you could be, one could think.

But, the construction crew Columbus Crew, wasn't the premise that the guy who came up with the name even had in mind anyway:

Colombian-born student Luis Orozco was one of thousands of Ohioans who contributed to the naming contest. Orozco was the sole person to come up with the Crew as a name; as he told Eight by Eight magazine, his vision played off Columbus sharing a name with Christopher Columbus, with the “crew” here being the sailors who helped the explorer sail the ocean blue in 1492. Orozco had even conceived a motto in line with the league’s desire to help Americans seek out and find the world’s game at home: “Christopher Columbus discovered America; come and discover us.”

On October 17, 1995—the same day as MLS Unveiled—Orozco was announced as the winner of the contest, but the “crew” the team came up with was a far different crew than the one he’d imagined. To his disappointment—and, as it would turn out, the bewilderment and amusement of many—the team adopted a construction crew interpretation of the nickname, culminating in a shield-shaped logo in which “The Crew” topped a rendering of three alleged construction workers in very broad-brimmed hard hats.

From The United States of Soccer by Phil West.

Don't feel bad Luis. As eventually the Crew got it right as the new crest could be considered very pirate or sailor crest-like in a way.

Things have a way of working out. A bit similarly things worked out with the Nordecke name.

I came up with the name in 2008 but had no idea Columbus had a German heritage. I live and grew up over 3 hours away in Linesville, Pennsylvania.  I only lived in Columbus for a year.

Just thought it sounded cooler than north corner. Plain and simple.

What I did about this time of year in 2008 was went to a place I use quite a bit to this day, www.google.com/translate. And since everyone on Bigsoccer knew the Crew were moving the fan section to the north corner of the stadium. And a lot of people thought the new area should have a cool new name. I simply typed north corner on there and clicked a few different languages. Fourth of fifth try. Boom. Nordecke.

But, was a good modification of the story by some that the name was because of that and a lucky one for helping the name stick that Columbus has German Village and a German history. Just good or great luck. Why the name likely took off or didn't hurt.

I also like the thought of this.

In the past, since they were our sponsor I would buy Glidden paint if I ever painted, usually for banners for the Columbus Crew ๐Ÿ˜… or Barbasol shaving cream as that was rather easy to support. But, I'm cool with the thought of buying an Acura to support our sponsors in the future. Uh, keep that dream alive Crewfighter.

Glidden, Barbasol sounds like the right sponsor for America's Hardest Working Team. But, I never really liked The America's Hardest Working Team motto, especially last season. Or that the Crew was looked at as a construction crew. I don't believe it defines Columbus much.

I like the direction the team is going in. I'm guessing I'm not alone.

As far as the Barbasol Man of the Match component for Acura. How about Acura Drive of the Game?

That would mean at least four Crew goals a game are required. Which I'd be okay with. Ola will be probably okay with for his Golden Boot campaign.

Jerseys. GSH's for 2/24..

Gaven, Schelotto, Hejduk's: Are the top Crew contemplations of today. If you're new to the Crew... Video example of what is a Gaven, Schelotto, Hejduk.

Back to Yellow.

Yesterday around 9 am

Around 1130 am yesterday
This morning the jerseys have finally been leaked
Love it.

If true the yellow version will be the first Crew jersey I've bought since I began following the club in 2005. Definitely want the yellow one, will be buying.

Former Crew draftee, defender Ben Sweat signed by NYCFC

That's a case of never giving up. Reported that the spot was between him and 9 other trialists at NYCFC. So, good on him.
Some help needed

Since I was off on Wednesday did this for Crew fans who may be working or at a dinner or other engagement, as there isn't an archive so no way to watch hours later.
But, I work on Saturday and want this as well personally. I'm sure I'm not alone. Got about 5 thank you's on Wednesday. And I'm sure more people have stuff to do 5 pm on a Saturday compared to on a Wednesday.

The software that I use has a free trial, nothing necessary to begin. A 90 minute film is a good sized file and would be tough to upload for free on YouTube or Vimeo. But, can send it to me this way: http://www.wikihow.com/Email-Large-Video-Files and I will share.

Obviously, would like to share. Will give you credit on here, buy something for you on opening day from the concession stand, lol. But, if you want to post yourself. No worries. I just want to watch the game. ๐Ÿ˜‰

If anyone can be a pal, let me know. Can message on twitter, leave a comment here, or email me at crewturefanzine@gmail.com  and can explain how I did it. Software is nice, doesn't get in the way. I watched game on television Wednesday while it was running.

Game Thoughts... GSH's for 2/22

Gaven, Schelotto, Hejduk's: Are the top Crew contemplations of the day. If you're new to the Crew... Video example of what is a Gaven, Schelotto, Hejduk.

Full Game:

Silly Thoughts

What I meant by that is the two announcers said that a Charleston Battery player got yellow carded for booting a ball away from the reach of the referee when in fact it was probably a hand ball right outside of the 18 yard box.

Then said Afful didn't learn the lesson and got yellow carded as well for booting the ball away from the referee when in fact it was likely because he put a Battery player in a choke hold.
Actually would love to work with them. Because when I produced soccer, the announcers were always the most anal retentive with their folders of information.

Have seen some wild organization systems and announcers freaking out in gesticulation when they lost something.

And I don't really think this was because of me. But, it's fun to think that it was.
18 minutes later..
My guess on Francis. Probably concussion as well from a head on collision with Ola. Worked well the first time.

And did the referee check a video screen on the side of the field on a Abubukar hand ball? I guess referee was checking whether it was inside or outside the box? And since the replay showed he never touched the ball or caused a foul, lol call was outside.

Serious Thoughts

No one impressed me really tonight 1st half.

Higuain had good moments and so did the Crew early on in the game, but later in that half the Battery controlled the game.

2nd half things got much better with Meram, Abu, Raitala, Williams, and Naess. They got back to controlling the field.

Also, with Steffen.
Overall, not excellent when you tie a USL team (considered 2nd, 3rd division depending on who you ask) thanks to an own goal.

But, good considering we have the most points in the Challenge Cup. Might as well go win the thing on Saturday. Cannot hurt.

Video Assistant Referee System

Please no.
Sometimes you get cheated in soccer, as in life. I rather just have the game keep moving. What I like to soccer compared to other sports.

Martinez plays 90 today for Panama U-20. GSH's for 2/21..

Gaven, Schelotto, Hejduk's: Are the top Crew contemplations of the day. If you're new to the Crew... Video example of what is a Gaven, Schelotto, Hejduk.

Panama wins 4-0, Martinez well involved

Crew SC midfielder Cristian Martinez was literally involved all over the field.

He started the first 15 minutes at right midfielder, the next 15 minutes at left, the next 15 minutes mainly at right, with a final few at left.

To start off the 2nd half he stayed at left, then right for a bit, and finished off the game at central midfield.

For Panama it took them a bit to break through, until the 38th minute by perhaps the worst goalkeeping I've seen in a bit.

As the early 2nd half went on that lead rapidly quadrupled. Unsurprisingly, Martinez best play was much of the 1st half and when something was still at stake early on in the 2nd.

Martinez is obviously considered a top player for Panama as he takes all their corners and free kicks as well.

See any Afful, Mensah, or Artur tomorrow?

I'm pretty sure that's Mensah there.

Berhalter mentioned to The Columbus Dispatch to expect more subs.

I don't see either having a role on day one or two in a starting capacity and frankly perhaps not necessary.

As far as Artur, he posted on his Instagram something at noon today with the following message:

"Here I am for one more day, as yesterday was and tomorrow will be each with you because... For mine I bring air to my lungs and the worst thing to do is forget your reasons."

Or something or other.

So today I would say he was in Brazil. Doesn't seem to be much of a rush to get him here, perhaps later this week.

See a Pipa and Cry, Maloney and Ketterer Acquired, Afful and Mensah on Their Way? GSH's for 2/20...

Gaven, Schelotto, Hejduk's: Are the top Crew contemplations of the day. If you're new to the Crew... Video example of what is a Gaven, Schelotto, Hejduk.

See a Pipa and Cry

That's what an Argentine article had to say about Argentine Tata Martino's loss to Crew SC countryman Federico Higuain in preseason this Saturday.

Surely when Federico Higuain converted the two goals of the friendly with which the Columbus Crew won 2-1 to Atlanta United, Gerardo Martino will have remembered Gonzalo ... Federico is the brother of the Juventus striker, who was the executioner of the team for Tata (Argentine National Team coach from 2014-2016) prior to full preparation for the start of Major League Soccer.
Although it was a friendly, the Argentine coach again sourced a Higuain. In its passage by the Argentina Selection, the Pipita did not have a good performance in the two finals that he led for the Tata. In the Copa America 2015, the then Number 9 of Napoli failed in the clearest opportunity of the Argentine team to open the scoreboard before the Chilean set and then missed his shot in the penalty shootout. In the Copa America Centenario 2016, Higuaรญn had 1-0 but in the heads-up against Bravo resolved badly and in the penalty shootout, Chile returned to keep the title.
In this friendly, corresponding to the Carolina Challenge Cup, Atlanta United had started with an advantage with a goal by Venezuelan Josef Martรญnez, but Federico Higuaรญn turned the marker in the second half twice for a definitive 2-1 win. The Tata team played the Argentines Miguel Almirรณn, Tito Villalba and Leandro Gonzรกlez Pirez.
But, Federico made the biggest Argentine impression. Here's to hoping he continues to do so, gets stronger and stronger in 2017.

Maloney and Ketterer Acquired

Connor Maloney scored 26 goals as a striker for Penn State in 73 appearances.

In regards to that, he probably did not expect his first appearance with Columbus on Saturday to be at right back. But, he also played 90 minutes and impressed most Crew fans.

Starting the first preseason game out of the gate, I made the comment on Twitter or Reddit I expect him to be signed very soon and well...

Today he was.. And so was goalkeeper Logan Ketterer.

I also wouldn't be surprised if Logan Ketterer eventually gets more in the mix as he looks like the prototypical goalkeeper in strength, height which I like.

It's not a situation where Zack Steffen or Brad Stuver have the position locked down in any way, where he's the definition of an understudy.

Afful and Mensah on Their Way?

As the two apparently had a little photoshoot today in Crew gear.

Hopefully on the way to the airport.

Same with Artur. I just want the entire Crew team here and going.

Gaven, Schelotto, Hejduk's for 2/19 (Saravia, Crew Academy General Manager Dennis Sanchez, Crew U16's)

Crew SC Midfielder Saravia Loaned to Sweden's IK Frej
Gaven, Schelotto, Hejduk's: Are the top Crew contemplations of the day. If you're new to the Crew... Video example of what is a Gaven, Schelotto, Hejduk .

Crew SC Midfielder Rodrigo Saravia Loaned To Sweden's IK Frej

The second year Crew SC midfielder Saravia was loaned to IK Frej of the Swedish Superettan today. The Superettan is Sweden's 2nd Division with promotion to the Allsvenskan.

IK Frej finished 10th last year. But, are a club headed to the Allsvenskan someday soon I would think.

Frej were in Tier 5 (somewhere below NPSL in US terms) in 2001 and have steadily ascended to Tier 2 since.

The loan move means that one international spot opens up.

The acquiring of Artur meant we had 10, which is now 9.

Artur, Raitala, Mensah, Abu, Kamara, Abubakar, Martinez, Saravia, Naess, Afful.

We need it to be 8 by March 4th. So I figure either Martinez, Artur, or perhaps even Abubakar... One of those three is headed towards a similar loan situation for the 2017 season.

But, is that in Pittsburgh or somewhere else like Sweden?

If it's Martinez, who after watching Saturday for Panama I believe can do some damage for us this year off the bench, or Artur I would like the same to occur.

A loan somewhere where the loan could be of help to them and build them into an even stronger player for Crew SC.

Pittsburgh can only likely be of help to Swanson, Hollingsworth, perhaps Abubukar or Hansen for a season. Same with Maloney and Ketterer.

The translated Saravia to IK Frej article, link here.

Frej's manager Bartosz Grzelak sounds super jacked when asked about acquiring Saravia, "I have no comment on the data," wrote Frey manager Bartosz Grzelak in a text message to Football Channel.

Columbus Crew Academy General Manager Dennis Sanchez and Pittsburgh Riverhounds Co-Owner and CEO Jason Kutney Speaking of Relationship on Pittsburgh Scholastic Soccer Show

The complete podcast is here, but since it's over an hour in length I cut to the Crew SC parts.

If you go to 38:30 in you can hear Pittsburgh Riverhounds Co-Owner and CEO Jason Kutney discussing partnership.

But, things get more concrete listening to Crew Academy General Manager Dennis Sanchez's discussion... Which starts at 44 minutes in.

At 53:50 in, in full podcast they discuss their thoughts about what Sanchez said.

But very interesting. Gives you a definite low down on what the Crew are doing in Pittsburgh. And heck of a little podcast, well done.

In Video Format:

Crew SC wins 2-1 over ATL UTD

The Crew trotted out something that resembled this...

And after giving up an early goal played better and had the game at most times against ATL UTD with more of the opportunities.

Overall, not terrible without a Mensah, Afful, or to a lesser degree Artur.

You have to figure if Maloney is starting he's going to find his way towards a jersey number.

Good start for Pipa.

Martinez and U-20 Panama win over US U-20's 1-0

Which is quite surprising since Panama played with 10 men since the 19th minute.

I think that was why Martinez was subbed in the 72nd minute as he was all attack for most of the first half. And was one of the brightest players in the first half. Electric, fast, not a lot of mistakes.

Easy to catch in highlights I posted in all yellow shoes.

Hearing from captain Justin Meram and Zack Steffen

Two things I can approve of.

1.) Meram can be a captain. The guy can role the dice and give anything a try.. Not just the obvious of playing internationally for Iraq. But, that's his game a bit too.

Also, is likeable to a greater degree than um some might've been.

Longest tenured as well.

2.) Zack Steffen starting.

When you get a US international that played at SC Freiburg. You start him. Just my opinion on that debate.

2/18/17: Columbus Crew SC South Carolina Preseason Schedule In Totality

Crew SC with Citadel Bulldogs soccer early Thursday. Original size, link. And according to picture no Mensah, Afful, or Artur yet unless they flew in yesterday.

Crew SC has been in Charleston, South Carolina since early Thursday.

Even though they posted a million things from Super Kick on Thursday that must have been from Wednesday.

Crew posted this at 7:50 PM on Thursday:
But at 5:46 PM on Thursday, Head Coach of Citadel Soccer in Charleston, South Carolina Ciaran Traquair posted this:
Haha. Crew getting crazy with the closed door trickery. Here's their preseason schedule in South Carolina this next week in totality. I think.

Crew SC B vs. Coastal Carolina 12 PM
Crew SC vs. Atlanta United 4:30 PM

Wednesday, February 22nd
Crew SC combined vs. Charleston Battery 5 PM

Saturday, February 25th
Crew SC B vs. Charlotte Independence 10:30 AM
Crew SC vs. Seattle Sounders 4:30 PM

My thoughts on reasoning for a bit of a split tomorrow and next Saturday of the Crew squad.

Berhalter is basically doing a thing against MLS clubs in this preseason tournament where he plays his senior XI.

In the mornings (tomorrow against Coastal Carolina and then the Charlotte Independence next Saturday) he's playing his Crew B. Which is smart and is what they need to be doing in the next couple years with a USL Crew side. They need two teams in relative future.

I think we still have Romain Gall in our system if we had a Crew B, he's now playing in Swedish top flight at 22 (so yeah has talent). And I think the same scenario could occur with Martinez, Obinwa, Artur if we don't remedy that soon.

I THINK BERHALTER HAS TO UNDERSTAND THIS and does. Otherwise, he wouldn't be locking down these type of players still if they had no near future solution in mind.

Against Charleston on Wednesday, he's evaluating what happens tomorrow and making adjustments and involving everyone. I think it's smart for this part of preseason.

Could give us a stream or some goal highlights. I'll take anything with Crew SC scoring a goal at this moment.
And good lord just introduce the new jerseys already so our academy players don't have to wear that kit anymore.

Poor kids.

Is Berhalter like Berhalter's son? And Hughes is Morgan Hughes son? That would be like Game of Their Lives 2.

Anyway, good work boys.

Former Crew Captain, A captain once again

Guess Parkhurst wasn't half bad at captain for never talking. It will take the Crew until the final day before the season to select one themselves. Crew leave things in the air too long. Like the jersey.

What would be a cool surprise. Just introduce the jersey in one of the Carolina Challenge Cup games.

No preview, no sneak peek. Come out of the tunnel in the new jersey's.

Gaven, Schelotto, Hejduk's for 2/16

Gaven, Schelotto, Hejduk's: Are the top Crew contemplations of the day. If you're new to the Crew... Video example of what is a Gaven, Schelotto, Hejduk .

Quoteable: Josh Williams

In general, Williams knows how to give a no bullshit interview that's interesting.

Crew SC's Cristian Martinez and Panama U-20's face off against US U-20's Saturday at 3:30 PM.

A very good write up on what to expect in the United States group and from the US team as well according to RSL Soapbox.

The US and Panama will be expected to move on from their qualifying group with Haiti and St. Kitts & Nevis. That would put either of them in one of the two championship groups. The top two from each of those championship groups will then qualify for the 2017 U-20 World Cup in Korea later this Spring.

Here's the US roster that Cristian will be facing Saturday.

GOALKEEPERS (2): Jonathan Klinsmann (University of California; Newport Beach, Calif.), JT Marcinkowski (Georgetown; Alamo, Calif.)
DEFENDERS (7): Danny Acosta (Real Salt Lake; Salt Lake City, Utah), Marlon Fossey (Fulham F.C.; Surbiton, England), Justen Glad (Real Salt Lake; Tucson, Ariz.), Aaron Herrera (New Mexico; Casa Grande, Ariz.), Erik Palmer-Brown (Sporting Kansas City; Lee's Summit, Mo.), Tommy Redding (Orlando City SC; Oviedo, Fla.), Auston Trusty (Philadelphia Union; Media, Pa.)
MIDFIELDERS (6): Tyler Adams (New York Red Bulls; Wappingers Falls, N.Y), Luca de la Torre (Fulham F.C.; San Diego, Calif.), Jonathan Gonzalez (CF Monterrey; Santa Rosa, Calif.), Jeremiah Gutjahr (Indiana University; Bloomington, Ind.), Sebastian Saucedo (Real Salt Lake; Park City, Utah), Eryk Williamson (University of Maryland; Alexandria, Va.)
FORWARDS (5): Coy Craft (FC Dallas; Frisco, Texas), Jeremy Ebobisse (Portland Timbers; Bethesda, Md.), Brooks Lennon (Real Salt Lake; Paradise Valley, Ariz.), Jonathan Lewis (New York City FC; Plantation, Fla.), Emmanuel Sabbi (UD Las Palmas; Libertyville, Ill.)
In the group Panama is the big test, even though they are going through a different transition with a new head coach, highlighted here.

Can be watched on Fubo.tv, all the matches can also be viewed according to the US Soccer Federation on the Concacaf Facebook Page.

Another writeup by MLSSoccer here, highlighting Cristian Martinez as one of the top MLS players in the tournament.

Getting ready for ATL in Carolina..

All pictures are here. No Artur yet it appears.

But confused. Were the Crew in Columbus, Ohio yesterday? Or Charleston, South Carolina? Lol.

As Citadel's coach posted the following on Instagram yesterday at the same time.

2017 Crew could use a bit of Hejduk in them.. Just a little more going with what you feel.

Instinctively what is the correct action instead of second guessing every little thing.

2016 Crew just didn't play much in the way of free, relaxed soccer. I hope Williams quotes above mean something is progressing.
