Gaven, Schelotto, Hejduk's for 1/5/17- Josh Williams Returns Home

"But, we got yellow jersey's back?"
Gaven, Schelotto, Hejduk's: Are the top five Crew stories, and/or contemplations of the day. Either from twitter posts or articles that are Crew SC, Nordecke, or Crew transfer related.

If you're new to the Crew... Video example of a Gaven, Schelotto, Hejduk .

1. Josh Williams Returns Home.

Either as a solid third center back or even, maybe as a starter.

Considering Naess can slide forward into a CDM position.

A position Nicolai was in surprisingly a bit last season and 3G may secretly prefer him in. Gives you that option at least.

Either, or... Tyson Wahl was considered the third, sometimes fourth option at center back in 2016 and had 11 starts.

Welcome back Josh. I'm glad he is.

2. Went from PDL to MLS.

I don't think many other players had that route. So, one thing you can give Josh is a never quit attitude, someone who keeps going and trying. Relentless.

Personally I worked for the Dutch Lions when they were in the PDL in 2010, and the goal that starts at .17 seconds is at the Internationals place. Wonder if Williams played.

Shortly after that clip, he finished up play in the PDL that Summer for the Internationals. Got invited to three random Crew exhibitions against college teams and next thing you know the Crew signed him, 7 year MLS career later.

And 104 appearances later*. *which does beat about every other new Crew signing.

Williams actually went to the Crew's inaugural game in 1996, Crew fan ever since. Now he's back home.

Will be seen as a good move, choice.

Sidenote: Berhalter was the one that traded Williams away to NYCFC in the first place for allocation money in 2014. Now Williams is back in Columbus because Berhalter apparently wanted him back? Strange.

But, I'm sure in a way New York, Toronto was good for him. Still only 28.

3. Wil Trapp Makes Arena's First USMNT Camp...

Well, Arena's first go this time.

Before you get too excited it is an all MLS camp.

GOALKEEPERS (5): David Bingham (San Jose Earthquakes), Stefan Frei (Seattle Sounders FC), Bill Hamid (D.C. United), Nick Rimando (Real Salt Lake), Luis Robles (New York Red Bulls)

DEFENDERS (10): DaMarcus Beasley (Unattached), Steve Birnbaum (D.C. United), Brad Evans (Seattle Sounders FC), Greg Garza (Atlanta United FC), Matt Hedges (FC Dallas), Taylor Kemp (D.C. United), Chad Marshall (Seattle Sounders FC), Keegan Rosenberry (Philadelphia Union), Walker Zimmerman (FC Dallas), Graham Zusi (Sporting Kansas City)

MIDFIELDERS (12): Kellyn Acosta (FC Dallas), Alejandro Bedoya (Philadelphia Union), Michael Bradley (Toronto FC), Benny Feilhaber (Sporting Kansas City), Jermaine Jones (Unattached), Sacha Kljestan (New York Red Bulls), Sebastian Lletget (LA Galaxy), Kekuta Manneh (Vancouver Whitecaps FC), Dax McCarty (New York Red Bulls), Darlington Nagbe (Portland Timbers), Chris Pontius (Philadelphia Union), Wil Trapp (Columbus Crew SC)

FORWARDS (5): Juan Agudelo (New England Revolution), Jozy Altidore (Toronto FC), Jordan Morris (Seattle Sounders FC), Chris Wondolowski (San Jose Earthquakes), Gyasi Zardes (LA Galaxy)

I don't think Trapp is the favored bet to make the 23 man roster.

But, I think now would be a good year for Trapp to prove some people incorrect.

It's a good test for him and I'm sure Ethan Finlay would like to be in his spot.

Congrats to Trapp. I really do hope he gets time against Serbia and Jamaica, could be a good first impression for him.

4. Speaking of Trapp... Be prepared for the weird Lifetime movie plot between him and new Finnish signing Raitala.

Lol if you have any good titles or plots lol tweet me.

5. Berhalter getting that interview workout this week. All his reasons for bringing back Williams make sense, including Williams knowing the system already.

If you know the randomness of MLS.. Watch Josh start most of the year. Wouldn't bet against it. Don't think he was expected to last time in Columbus either.
