1/7/2017: Nico Estevez Now First Team Assistant, Shouldn't Be Much of a Surprise

Shouldn't be much of a surprise with Estevez's experiences. I'm sure it was all eventually in the back of Berhalter's head.

As Estevez was one of the youngest managers ever in La Liga. Even if it was on a provisional basis at 33 years of age, he took charge of Valencia for two games in 2013.

Only one who beats him, Juan Manuel Lillo at 30. Link.

Before that, he was closer to 30 when he nearly got a non-connected to Valencia CF side Hurricane Valencia in La Liga 2. The La Liga 2 where Cedrick currently resides with UCAM Murcia.

Estevez just came up short in promotion playoffs, winning 2 out of the 3 contests to get promoted. Beating Athletic Bilbao's 2nd team, but falling short to Real Jaen. This is all despite Hurricane being just a two year old club.

Founded in 2011, who played in under 1,000 capacity stands.

That got the attention of neighbors Valencia CF, who brought him to their second team Valencia CF Mestalla. At Mestalla, Estevez won the Ramon Cabo award and eventually took charge of the first team as Valencia looked for Miroslav Djukic's replacement.

Once they found him.. Four months later as happens with new manager appointments in a club, Estevez was let go.

He soon found himself in Columbus, Ohio. Estevez has been our Director of Methodology at Crew Academy for the last two and a half years.

I'm sure he has a pretty good idea about us now.

So, if Berhalter has a 2017 that starts off like 2016. Who is to say a more permanent Valencia CF situation doesn't occur for Estevez?

That's hopeful lol.

More tidbits

1. Nico Estevez isn't the only big guy below the scenes that has made news.

As I came along this about another Spaniard employed by Crew SC, a month ago. Link here.

Manuel Junco, who was employed by the Columbus Crew for the past three seasons in charge of European scouting, is now the Vice President of Wisla Krakow.

Who knows if he possibly scouted even a coach in Estevez.

2. If you were wondering Hurricane Valencia has done worse since Estevez left and went from almost promoted under Estevez to relegated last season. It seems Valencia CF Mastella has dropped down a league as well.
