1/23/17: Berhalter Make A Wrong Turn on Gall? Two Former Crew Players at Same Swedish Club

After being selected in 2014, by Berhalter in the weighted allocation lottery.

The 21 year old Romain Gall was waived and released by Gregg Berhalter on February 12th, 2016.

Maybe the 19, 20 year old just needed a bit more time.

Or a start somewhere. Or something downhill to turn back up.

Either way.. Gall only received 3 Columbus Crew appearances in his nearly two years here, along with 12 for previous partner club, the Austin Aztex.

Since then Gall has played for Nyköpings BIS this past season of Division 1 Norra of Sweden Sweden's third division.

In 24 appearances, the midfielder had 9 goals.

That led to a trial with Sundsvall of the Allsvenskan and then a signing yesterday.

Romain Gall will be able to contribute offensively and is an exciting young player who can play in several positions. He is fast and has a good understanding of the game, say GIF Sundsvall's first-team coach Joel Cedergren.

Romain has shown that he has great qualities that we GIF Sundsvall sought after and together we will ensure that we get an amazingly good development both for him and for GIF Sundsvall in the Allsvenskan, say GIF Sundsvall's sporting director Urban Hagblom.

Not bad for a 21 year old American to land on his feet in the Swedish premier division. Think Berhalter may have played that wrong, but may be more of a MLS playing it wrong by having no good solution for reserves in MLS that are good.

Might've been for the best for Columbus and Gall. Good luck and good work to Gall.

The move also means...

Two Former Crew Players at Same Swedish Club

The move is a bit amusing for another reason. As Columbus Crew SC has two former Crew players that play in the same European club now, Kristinn Steindórsson and Gall.

I don't think anyone's second guessing Kristinn's bonjour though.

Columbus had two former players before in the same European league.

Ryan Finley for Næstved BK and Adam Bedell for HB Koge in the Danish 1st Division. Bedell is no longer on that roster.

But, on the same European club, that has to be a first right?
