1/16/17 Gaven, Schelotto, Hejduk's- The Chicago Fire Having a Better Offseason?

Gaven, Schelotto, Hejduk's: Are the top Crew contemplations of the day. If you're new to the Crew... Video example of what is a Gaven, Schelotto, Hejduk .

Today's Gaven, Schelotto, Hejduk's:
1. Fire Signs Dax
2. Fire Doing Even More To Improve Before Opener?
3. FC Cincinnati
4. Mensah/Afful Starts AFCON Tomorrow

Here's what's going on today in Crew land.

Crew SC player development or a family reunion outing?
And a re-manufacture of some facts about our draft picks for the 32nd time. Cool.

Stories ⇩

1. Chicago Fire sign Dax McCarty. And why I like their moves.
As Chicago went into the draft with Dax in their minds apparently. But, wanted to take some of the allocation hit off of that intended deal.

They gave $400,000 to NYRB today.
But, gained $250,000 last Friday in the same allocation money pot, and then gave TFC $75,000 on the same day to gain Picks 26 & 27 in Round 2.

So, really today's deal for them was a less outrageous $225,000 dollar allocation hit for Dax McCarty and his nearly 300 MLS appearances under 30. Get one more rookie draft player as well in the process.

At least like the taking of a chance.

Columbus could've got a little more radical in comparison last Friday.

2. Chicago has signed goalkeeper Jorge Rodrigo Bava, forwards Nemanja Nikolic (which is big, will have the attention of Polish league fans) and Luis Solignac & now midfielder Dax McCarty.

Nikolic who has scored a ridiculous 40 goals in 56 games for Legia Warsaw. And did crazy similar before that in Hungary.

I wouldn't say MLS is much different.

And have been linked with everyone from Schweinsteiger early on.. To Nigerian midfielder Joel Obi.

Also, they got a little crazy in the draft.

The Crew on the other hand has only wildly signed as many replacements as they can find for Michael Parkhurst, along with Raitala and Hansen.

The Crew's confidence that Mensah, Raitala, Williams, Crognale, Abubakar, and Hansen may be enough in the way of additions is great, but perhaps crazy.

There may be a MLS deal coming for Columbus.
There will be no international ones, as Abubakar took up the last international spot.

I think it's safe to say which team wins the battle so far out of last year's 9th and 10 place teams.

3. FC Cincinnati is showing their fans are the Sounders of the Northeast here. As they have no business winning matchups No. 2 and No. 4
4. A reminder Ghana starts AFCON tomorrow. Can be viewed on BeInSports or BeInSportsConnect.

If you're like me and don't have BeInSports. You can grab a free trial on Sling TV for 7 days or FUBOTV for a day.

Quote of the day:

"I think we can make the playoffs. But, even if we do we won't go far because we just don't have the talent. We really have just rotated subs and improved the back line.

Not impressed." -TRUJDUB
