Brazilian left back Zeca was a player officially signed by the Columbus Crew to come to the team on loan in the Summer of 2015, but backed out last second in a reversal of coaching fortunes.
A year and a half later Zeca has started and hasn't been subbed for all games for Santos since. Has played in all 6 games for champion Brazil in the Olympics. And in December, received the Brazil 2016 Goal.com Award with Santos, link here.
From that article:
To reach the great moment that he lives today, however, Zeca had to overcome obstacles. Without space in the teams commanded by Enderson Moreira and Marcelo Fernandes, the player already had everything agreed to be loaned to the Columbus Crew of the United States. A few days before traveling, however, his life changed completely with the arrival of Dorival Júnior, who climbed him up the depth chart in first practice and then did not take him out of the team anymore.
Might've been okay for $120,000
