8/28/16: Crewture Thoughts vs. San Jose

Picture by Sam Fahmi (Gallery From Game)

Felt Like A Game In Columbus Again

Pregame Tifo?

Going Towards Nordecke Second Half?

Whoever thought it was a good idea to change that is overthinking.

Could see Berhalter doing a little overthinking. Who could imagine.

Not saying were going to inspire them to climb mountains. But compared to the Mapfre Insurance logo and four occupied seats the chances of inspiring something in the last 10 minutes is more likely on our end.

I hear Dwight Burgess mention it every home game this year. Just ask somebody why the change? You've only been the Crew commentator forever.

And Well Yes?

Long Jahn Looked Good. My new thing, trying to get a nickname to stick.

I think Adam Jahn is going to benefit quite well from the way Berhalter likes to play.

Berhalter's system screams for a lone striker that is strong and likes physical battles. Likes getting his head on the ball. Because when that lone striker is doing that it opens things up for Meram (who had a hell of a game), Finlay, Cedrick, Duka, and etc.

Why does it? Because it makes that lone striker a handful in the box. So they must keep tabs on him.

Ola Kamara not so much a handful in the box, but a better finisher.

I'm wondering if Jahn getting the start is because
A.) Berhalter thought he could get a reaction out of Jahn playing his former team or
B.) he'll say that because Jahn is the striker type he wants in the future.

We shall see. If it's just Berhalter taking a risk and shaking things up. That alone could be a good thing as he rarely does any of that.

Jahn's First Start Was Much Better Than Goitom's

Jahn should've probably had a goal at the end of the 1st Half. Was a hell of a save actually. Probably San Jose's only highlight.

Oh forget this gem.

Him and Wondolowski together. Yuck.

I can credit Berhalter with better signing prowess with Naess alone than Goitom, their Argentine defender, and Simon Dawkins as your DP lol.

2 shutouts, 2 wins in a week, Parkhurst looks capable again with him.

Quite big.

I was a bit disappointed Wednesday. But, considering before this week it was months since our last win. Two in a week, I'll be okay with.

Keep it up.

Oh you're American? Nevermind.

I think they'll be even better with Ancelotti compared to Guadriola.

Pep is such a douche, always liked Carlo. Read here.

Huh? What a terrible name.

How I wish Columbus fans would get again, lol. Especially in Nordecke.

8/26/16: What To Watch For Against San Jose

San Jose is Likely To Start New Striker Saturday Against Crew

Earthquake fans have been complaining about the striker partnership up top this season between Quincy Amarikwa and Chris Wondolowski.

San Jose haven't got goals and that's the reason they also find themselves on the outside looking in, in the Western Conference playoff hunt.

Well, Amarikwa got a knock Wednesday in a 1-1 tie against New England at home. So, San Jose manager Dom Kinnear might be forced no matter.

They signed Henok Goitom because of this reason anyways.

Good news is the struggling Columbus defense knows close to nothing about him. Except on YouTube:

The 31 year old looks like a rather decent player. Has had nearly a goal every two for Valladolid in Spain and AIK in Sweden.

So, of course he would sit against New England and play at Columbus.

Columbus Crew Can Take Better Confidence From Recent New England Performance

Columbus looked rather superb for a game. Enjoy it because might've been the peak or summit of this season.

I didn't think walaa/all is solved. But, it was obviously better away than San Jose's performance against New England was at home Wednesday.

Maybe Crew can take it as New England was struggling considerably, Philadelphia Union not so much, and San Jose is struggling a bit as well. So, must take advantage again when you can.

3 games in a week, two wins would still be considered a positive to me. Especially considering we hadn't had one before since May.

Get Back To Saturday's Lineup

The Crew's four wins this year were with a defensive midfield partnership of Mohammed Saeid and Wil Trapp.

I don't blame Tony Tchani or think he has been way worse. But, it is what it is and even if so when you win 2-0 on the road, especially as the last time you won has been 3 months prior, you change nothing.

Don't replace a DM and boot Cedrick from 18 to perhaps mess with team chemistry, team feeling. Get back to what worked last Saturday. Simple.

Get back to must win mode. Please.

Because once again is.

If you don't win at home against Philadelphia or San Jose it's over and deserves to be. Winning 2 out of 3 games in a week, it's not.

But, do or die once again.

8/26/16: Gaven, Schelotto, Hejduk's

In the looks department? Most definitely.

At least it's not ridiculous. I can respect Arsenal in that way.

Can sign someone and stick with it.

8/25/16: Top To Bottom Wrong In 2016

Don't worry quiet enough last night.

I feel you bro. Feel like I deserve that:

I was going to take a day to calm down and write something as nice as possible about losing twice at home to the Philadelphia Union in one season.

As what can happen next? Armageddon?

Got to save Columbus today baby.

We were once a team that couldn't lose at home. Now we can lose to Philadelphia at home, twice a year? Mapfre has been renamed Doophole Complex.

Anyways was letting it go and then saw this.

The Crew front office bragging about Adam Jahn's goal being a goal and said screw it. Screw being nice. They deserve it.

When you read the following, remember Philadelphia scored a second later to win the game, AND WE LOST.

True, true, and true. Why are we bragging about our goal in a loss?

And just in case the Crew delete something else,

What's going on in that office? Figured more people could just wander in on accident last night.

Maybe FC Cincinnati can teach them how to sell tickets.

Berhalter with the Cedrick Situation

If you didn't know an uninjured Cedrick Mabwati did not dress in the 18 last night.

Who knows why or what he did? What the situation happens to be? But, this scenario seems similar; has played out a few times and is a bit discerning to me.

Was a No Flex Zone, No FLEX ZONE.

In a game where we could've used an attacking jumpstart on the bench. A change of formation. SOMETHING. We get Duka, Jahn, and then Corey Ashe as substitutions? As you might have expected, didn't jumpstart anything.

Further, why bring on a left back in Ashe in the 80th minute when your down 2-1?

So, I wouldn't be surprised if it's c'est la vie Cedrick if you take in regard recent team history.

1.) Emil Larsen. We sign Larsen in the 2016 offseason, half the year that Larsen was here for cannot get into 18. How is a player supposed to get comfortable in a team that way, he doesn't. Larsen may not have deserved to be in 18.. But, highly debatable as guy played for Denmark in the Olympics!

Sure he might've been meh in the Open Cup and in a friendly against Veracruz. Haha, ok good enough I guess. We tried our best.

Not implying Larsen deserved to just get time. But if you're going to make him the biggest signing in the offseason maybe give bro 180 minutes that matter before you release him? Someone should've twittered Larsen and told him that it would be a waste of time to come here in a similar position as Higuain. That was his crime.

If he just wasn't good enough then it's still ridiculously bad on 3G for signing him.

2. Waylon Francis sat the bench for a long while for nothing in particular. He hasn't been great but no worse than Finlay, Trapp, or anyone else. Has been better than loveable Afful crossing wise for sure and in general in a few games. Sure Afful has been better for a few too. But that much better? Eh.

Afful positively brings ball up, getting attack moving in a lot of ways. But, should stay at midfield as he shanks just about every final third opportunity. And ruined about two others, on top of shooting, with his dribbling last night.

Just being fair.

Sometimes it's like Berhalter just needs someone to blame.

3. Cedrick. I can guess what happened.

Cedrick got a bit annoyed that his chances to play went to zero again once Finlay had one decent moment all season and had some comment under his breath and Berhalter didn't like it.

Well, if so, he has a point.

One more thing. So, we WIN A GAME FOR THE FIRST TIME IN MONTHS. Why sit Saeid after win for Tchani? I'm sure considering circumstances, Tchani would've or might've understood this time.

Good luck figuring a lot of this befuddling mess out. I'm starting to think a lot of people there can't.

Honestly rather see Detroit City or Indy Eleven get a MLS team.

8/22/16: What To Watch For Against Philly Union

1. Last Time The Crew Played The Union at Home, Wasn't Good

I hope the Columbus Crew can use that as this week's motivation.

Last weeks' was obvious, want to come out ahead of Kei and of course finally tally a win.

Well, I think the motivation for Wednesday is obvious too.

When the Crew lost their home opener to Philly, they still felt as if they were a big team.

Can look back on that and say that's where our season started to go wrong. We can make the season right this time around.

There were also a few, like me, that were surprised that now the Philadelphia Union are making bigger moves than us and mentioned.

Can put that to bed too.

Should look at these all as six pointers against the Eastern Conference. With a win, even the Union is catchable.

2. Ethan Finlay

I don't know how the magic of the brain works. But, Ethan Finlay looks wired now.

I think he's a bit more cerebral than some players. I didn't think he was god wonderful against NYCFC. But, had a feeling two goals would get him in a good spot and he looked great against the Revolution.

Team looked unrecognizable at times against New England.

Sure they were still possessing. But, not just possessing to possess, instead doing some quite wonderful soccer around the field.

Finlay and Meram keyed in makes this team so much better.

Naess and Parkhurst were a breath of fresh air on Saturday as well.

3. Success This Week, Comes Down A Lot On Berhalter's Player Management

Played New England last Saturday, play Philadelphia Wednesday, and San Jose next Saturday.

That's a lot of minutes in a short spell.

I think most of our guys are exceptionally fit, not an issue. But, some might need the minutes to be 60, instead of 90 at some point.

Just would still start Saeid, if everything worked well for once last game, keep it.

Over the next two games, 60-70 minute subs that could be required.

Dilly Duka for Federico (60 minute for one game, maybe two with coming off injury)
Christian Martinez for Finlay (70 minute for one)
Jahn for Ola (60 minute for one game)

Ola could be a bit sore after the last game, deserves a small break.

Let him get a goal or assist on one. Then let Jahn get a longer run out to see what he can do.

But, leave it at that. Don't try to overcoach or overthink the situation. Especially when your team is in a good spot mentally for once this entire season.

4. New Signing That Looks Better on Wednesday?

8/22/16: Gaven, Schelotto, Hejduk's

Miss you Myspace.

Especially the Soundtrack on my page. That way people could know who I really am.

Got to give it to Adrien Silva. If Parkhurst did that could play CB for next two decades for us, lol.

Kovacevic or Iago Dias gets a close second for their goals.

Well, I had fun Saturday.

Yeah would make sense at Emirates. Only way I could get into this is if Sports Illustrated Swimsuit edition did a online video issue of this.

Honestly, since it's sports why can't they take the pics at sporting events?

That's f'ed. Just got to do you, there's several idiots in this world no matter. But, don't worry OC Blues player will be playing at Walmart, Taco Bell soon.

Rogers is a player that I wish the Crew still had.

Think he's still very capable of being a hell of a winger, doesn't have to be a left back. Has been sort of overshadowed by the Gerrard, Dos Santos show in LA. Columbus or a similar locale might be better.

If Berhalter is in this phase of bringing players back with Duka. Make Rogers next. Can possess, can play left back, which Berhalter hasn't been as happy with this year.

8/21/16: Crewture Thoughts vs. New England

-Did the team take something? If they did keep taking it.

Geez. Looked focus. At times were dribbling around New England like it was a joke.

Sure there were times when we got some luck. But, the team that won deserved to win.

-Everyone looked good.

Even Parkhurst next to Naess.

Like good enough to keep that as is and see how it progresses.

I said before the game the biggest thing I wanted was a shutout, more than a win. They got it and got both. Not upset.

-It was nice to enjoy a game again, thank you. And whatever you did differently to prepare keep doing it.

#5 Got involved in some mascot talk apparently on twitter a few days back.

It's been a umm boring season.
La Galaxy's mascot Cozmo liked it. Crew Cat is now called S.C., his twitter.

I just was generally confused, missed the name change a few years ago.

Wish the Crew could relax on the SC stuff. Especially on Crew broadcasts. Burgess is never allowed to just say Crew, it's "Crew SC this or that." No fan is saying I'm a Crew SC fan. Just relax on it.

Beating Arsenal, never means you can beat Burnley.

Well, that's comforting.

8/20/16: What to Watch For Against New England

1. Will Berhalter "Must Win" Talk Mean Results?

Berhalter stated “we talked this morning about what this game means, exactly what this game means, and there being a lot of implications behind this game. If you win it, you’re back in it. If you tie, it doesn’t help much, and if you lose, it’s tough.”

One week Berhalter was being tough on the guys in practice. Another he bemoaned that guys need to show him they want to be here in games.

No matter tie or loss.

I would like Berhalter to accentuate how vitally important a game is once and have it lead to an ass kicking response. Hopefully team talks are a little more inspiring than Berhalter's above explanation.

Players have said the intensity of the week has been “ramped up" and their "backs are against the wall."

Well, feel free to ramp up the intensity weeks in advance next season. If ramped up every week perhaps you don't find yourself 3-8-11.

2. Care If You Must

Instead of maybe no one... Maybe no one should care. Kei Kamara included. It is what it is. Didn't happen how I wanted it to (as well as for I think anyone). But, happened.

Ola has 6 more goals, 10 to Kei's 4, since deal occurred.

But, if Crew win on who has more goals, they obviously don't win on what's important, winning.

And who knows. Could've had 30 goals in total if they played two Kamara's? Lol joking. Sort of.

The two strikers goes against our vaunted system that's worked so well, so transgress. Let it go.

But, solid article here by Tom Reed.

3. What I'll Applaud Is Some Defense

Nicolai Naess looked good in his introduction with the team last week.

I would like to see him get increasingly more comfortable. If that translates into a few clean sheets would be alright. But, that's on all four in the back four.

If whoever is on that backline can put in a full 90. Not fall asleep for 5 of it that would be nice.

Currently would take clean sheets over a 4-3 win at the moment.

4. Who's Feeling Better at 10 PM Tomorrow?

8/17/16: Improved Ideas for a Columbus Crew USL Reserve Squad

In a meeting with fans earlier in the month, the Columbus Crew's Gregg Berhalter stated that Columbus is looking to create a Columbus Crew 2 eventually.

But, will it be under a "2" moniker or be a uniquely distinct part of the organization?

Either way is an improvement. But, which would cause the most improvement?

The two better, more unique ideas after asking around.

1. Pittsburgh Riverhounds as Columbus Crew 2

"With the Riverhounds not having a general manager or personnel director, could or would the Crew want to become a larger partner, have more say, and invest in more resources in nearby Pittsburgh. With so many MLS teams running their own USL franchises with success (NY Red Bulls II, LA Galaxy, Orlando City and Saturday’s opponent Philadelphia Union’s Steel FC), the prospects of Pittsburgh being a place for the Crew to operate its own team may be more and more possible then previously thought of at the beginning of this season."

This is from a Pittsburgh blogger.

Nice location, nice stadium, have been the team in Pittsburgh for a long while.

Actually, the first time I watched the Crew was here.

Washington Wild Things Consol Energy Park.

For peculiar reasons, the Crew played a mid-Summer friendly against the Pittsburgh Riverhounds at this baseball mound back in 2005 or 2006.

This is a bit nicer venue.

The Crew in coordination with Pittsburgh could either start out with a Houston Dynamo and RGV Toros arrangement and eventually go for more. Or make that the end goal.

Pittsburgh Soccer Report breaks it down,
"The Dynamo are responsible for the tactical part of the club – selecting players and coaching staff. The ownership group of Rio Grande, Lone Star, are responsible for operations and day-to-day management of the club."

Or they could do more eventually. Leaves the door, in a way, always open.

I actually talked to a Riverhounds front office guy in 2015.

He was either third or fourth in the team decision making pecking order.

Was for my cousin's social website, Burgh Life. Cousin had an interview with a Riverhounds player scheduled but he knows very little about soccer, so called me to help. Had about a 20 minute relaxed chat with front office guy after the player interview.

He told me ownership stability has been a huge issue for them right before last year's upcoming season. They're better now (back in 2015) he said, than the previous year by a lot. But, this still all occurred after the new stadium.

So, even a nice little stadium downtown hasn't solved all their problems.

Maybe more of a deal with the Crew could?

2. Akron Crew

In association with the College Akron Zips, playing at their FirstEnergy Stadium.

From TKyle and Tobias at the Bigsoccer Crew forum:

"The team could practice M-F in Obetz and play on weekends in Akron to grow the market and the brand (black and gold, similar logo, somewhat similar thematic name)."

"If they chose to go with Akron, they could probably play at the Zips stadium. That would be easy enough."

One good thing is that FirstEnergy Stadium is right in the middle of campus, perhaps surrounded by 25,000 bored college kids who already get behind a soccer team rather well.

3. Columbus Crew II

Practice at same place as team, play at the same place. Practical reserve squad.

This could be the best option and idea.

The only reason I bring up other off the wall ideas is because creativeness is fun for me. For better or for worse, if you didn't notice.

Also, other teams have started doing the creative with their reserve squads. Bethlehem Steel FC (Union), Swope Park Rangers (Sporting KC), and RGV Toros (Houston Dynamo).

4. Other Location

I obviously don't have all the ideas, and sometimes the crappy with my first post, poll.

Where I've put the idea of another city in Ohio, no one has been big on a Dayton Crew.

Saying there's better places where there would be more appeal like Canton, Toledo, and even Cleveland.

One of the better names, if the Crew go that route was the Cleveland Generals (in honor of General Moses Cleaveland, the founder of Cleveland).

From Bigsoccer poster MLSinCleveland surprisingly :-).

Expect it to take some time

The Crew have said they want to build up their pipeline to justify an expenditure of a second team. But, should it take much more time than it has taken other teams?

From Catfish9:
"I'm not buying the "we don't have enough players in the pipeline" BS they've been feeding us. Think Swope Park Rangers are all former SKC acedemy kids? What about Los dos? NOT! You build your second team with homegrowns - yes, but also with other promising youngsters that didn't get drafted out of college but you've scouted, Some guys needing rehab assignments, some of your own draft picks that can't make first team YET, etc. You are still building from within. Still developing young talent. They are just sourced from various places. It takes work and investment to do it right. So what I hear the FO say is they aren't willing to invest and don't want to make the effort."

If fans haven't been bringing this up much in advance and Berhalter brought it up himself. Then why? This link hits both sides of the argument. We will maybe see.

I'm just going to be hopeful that the Crew get moving on it. Would be a much bigger move than a big signing.

Thanks to cyberslydr as well for Riverhounds blog story

Looks like a great little event.

Definitely approve of season ticket holders having a solid event at the stadium.

Is there similar for the part of the community that has less of an idea about the team too? Not saying it should be as elaborate, just a question.

Because if the Crew got a couple hundred families, that don't know much about the team, out to a community meet and greet; They see their kids having fun with the players, could maybe get a few hundred additional season tickets sold a year.

Could call it Community Columbus or Crew in the Community: Columbus or something. Put it in the paper. Have it in like a park, during some holiday (like Memorial Day), earlier in the day.

Downtown Columbus, behind the library or something. Decently nice park there.

Who can grow the fanbase more than the players?

Oh god. That about ends the soccer player fascination with their hair right?

Apparently I work for USF now, lol.

They have an awesome soccer field.

Actually where I did my first Division I College Soccer production, was there to do their men's and women's game, but was there until 3 am thanks to lightning.

8/15/16: Decide Crew 2

With 25,000 20 something's within a mile, in a University that gets behind soccer, who could perhaps use something to do on a weekend night. Akron U might be a decent place for a USL Crew 2 team, maybe.

Decide Crew 2.
Yeah right.

But, writing a story on this Wednesday, with the best ideas.

Solid ideas so far:
-Forget Dayton. Canton, Toledo, or Cleveland would be much better locations.
-Name Crew 2 the Cleveland Generals (in honor of General Moses Cleaveland, the founder of Cleveland)
-Name Crew 2 Akron Crew, the team should practice M-F in Obetz and play on weekends in Akron to grow the market and the brand (black and gold, similar logo, somewhat similar thematic name).
-If they chose to go with Akron, they could probably play at the Zips stadium. That would be easy enough.

Highly recommend First Energy Stadium, where the Akron Zips play. Is a sharp little stadium, with a nice press box, easy to film games, put live online. Did it twice when I was producing Division I.. In a good location (smack dab in the middle of campus).
Just an FYI, if you want to be involved in the Poll there's two more days.

If you have a creative mindset, selecting one of my dubious names doesn't mean you want that name. The names represent the following ideas:

If you go with one just looking for Crew 2.
If you go with two in Columbus but a different name. Still could play in CCS.
If you go with three in a suburb.
In four Dayton Crew. Or Canton Crew. Or Cleveland Crew. Etc.

Just wasn't able to make a poll that long on Twitter. When done. I'll Photoshop poll finale in that way.

Could be a waste of time. But, who knows.

A dude or babe could come up with an idea that the team ends up really liking.

"What a tackle from Trapp," I doubted for a second because I thought may not have been clean. But, was solid. Props for taking the risk.

Overall, thought it was a better performance from him.

9. Afful Pissed- Afful was mad when Higuaรญn elected not to feed him on this run..

Luckily trade deadline has passed. Lol, I'm kidding.

But, I would limit those displays in front of the Federico.

8. Don't Deserve A PK, When You Miss Open Player That Badly- Probably should've been a PK. But, considering how atrocious Finlay's pass was to a wide open Ola yeah wouldn't call it either.

That was bad. Luckily it got better for him as the game went.

Good performance (or better) from Finlay, not bad for Meram either. Whereas, meh this week from Tchani, Ola. Maybe everyone can get going at the same time? Would that be ok?

Finlay finding some confidence again at the end of this season wouldn't obviously be bad though.

7. Naess, First Half, Two Good Long Balls- Nicolai had two good long balls 1st half.

Although he didn't do, or have to do much of the spectacular, thought he was good; can see why the Crew targeted him.

6. Ola Air Game Isn't The Best- That first half was a bit rough with the crosses and attempted headers.

Why not try to just play down the middle, play him a ball on the ground if that's more his game?

No matter what, were trying to play the same game as last year. Not the same team and THAT'S OK.

5. Or Team Decision Making.. Shoot Tchani- When players get an opportunity often they pass the buck on this team.

Got to shoot to score. Would like players to gain the opportunity and take it.

4. NYCFC Falls Down A Lot- Allllllllllllllllllllllll game.

It was probably 10 minutes out of the 90.

McNamara might be the biggest turd, but it's a steep contest on that lineup.

3. Not a PK, But Let The Crazy Commence- Can just leave it at that. Can't make up this season.

But, wonder if referees get a chance, at half, to look over a highlight tape of the first half.

If so, maybe Stoci saw that he should've called one earlier. Made it easier to give Finlay the benefit of the doubt later.

2. Not Smart- Get taken out of next week's game for an unnecessary foul. Sometimes Tchani could work on his temperament when he plays.

At times is a good thing. But, some of his disagreements with the referee led to that yellow.

1. Only Positive- If a two goal game gets Ethan Finlay going again. Could be worth it.

I would even take that over a 6th place playoff spot.

Were not doing anything there if we do get in. But, would like Finlay to get back to last year and then some.

8/12/16: Gaven, Schelotto, Hejduk's

Gaven, Schelotto, Hejduk's: Are posts on twitter that are either interesting, fascinating, amusing, or transfer or Crew, team related. Mainly of the soccer world. But, once in a while comedic or political. (Fun video example of what is a Gaven, Schelotto, Hejduk).

That 10 Cappuchino's a day means he's everywhere.

Or beer.

Does this mean I can still wake up at 6 am tomorrow and watch EPL Soccer?

Yes. Then who cares.

I'll never let a Swedish woman cry. Just so you all know.

Especially female soccer player Josefine Oqvist:

And well all Swedish women:

Oh tis soccer.

Should have been over on Sweden's offsides call perhaps anyway.

Here's something to make you feel better,

8/11/16: Gaven, Schelotto, Hejduk's

We didn't tie pow!

About as exciting as touring Old Trafford..

Going the Emil Larsen route. Play like crap, go to Olympics.

Name of victims, forming a heart. That is awesome.

Has been a while since we've talked about our real rivals.

Where does Crew Cat fit in?

Random Spurious Soccer Clip of the Day:

8/11/16: Columbus Crew 2 Name Ideas, Poll

German village as the location of Crew 2? If they learn how to put stadium in sky?

Putting this up because if the Columbus Crew are serious about building a B, JV squad in USL you have some options nowadays.

You can either put together a JV squad that has no separate identity.

New York Red Bulls II, Seattle Sounders 2, LA Galaxy II.. I think it's safe to say, boring.

Not much creativity in those choices by their front offices.

Or make it interesting. Even if the separate identity to your main squad is completely superficial.

Examples, Bethlehem Steel FC (even though logo is atrocious) or Swope Park Rangers (Sporting KC's).

Atrocious, in my opinion, because the snake has nothing to do with the iconic, original Bethlehem Steel. They're just sneaking in it's Philly Union B.

Here's the options in my poll and an explanation or break down of what each choice means..

Basically if you vote first option, you're voting for Columbus Crew II. If you vote second option, more interesting name but still located in Columbus. If you vote third, suburb of Columbus. If you vote fourth, Dayton, Ohio or somewhere else that is reasonable to drive, but could open up new avenues for Crew.

Columbus Crew 2, II, B- Pretty obvious but fine. I would be happy just to have a JV team playing in USL.

Also, if we have another season like this. Crew diehards, Nordeckians would probably love to have another avenue close by to watch/feel better about themselves.

Old South End FC- Old South End was what the German Village was originally called. That or "Die alte sud ende."

I think the "Nordecke" is the end of our German translations.

I do find it amusing that since 2008, that the Crew and sometimes others say we coined the name "Nordecke" as a result of German history in Columbus, the German Village.

Basically, what happened was.. Started this blog in January 08..
I, wasn't alone, wanted us to have a much more acknowledged supporters section.
Starting that year, we were scrunched up in the North Corner of stadium, for the first time, because of the construction of the stage.
Our old seats, section was demolished to make room for the stage, Bravo, Lamar Hunt's son.
I (and others) thought new locale needed a new name to set itself apart, make it more interesting.

North Corner was boring, lame.

So, I put North corner in google translate and clicked about 10 other languages until I came to German. "Nordecke."

I'm like that sounds much cooler than North corner.
Started campaigning for it on here and Bigsoccer.

But, I'm from Northwestern Pennsylvania (Linesville, PA).
Had no idea in 2008 about Columbus's German heritage. Moved to Columbus for the first time (for a year) in August 2008.

But, the Crew might've been right. The name could have stuck because of the German Village connection, German heritage connection in the city.

Stroke of luck. Blind luck.

So, why not connect a Crew 2 team in a similar way?

Calling a team German Village FC or SC would be hell of cheesy. Old South End FC sounds cooler.

I struggle to find much else iconic throughout the city? If you have a better idea, tweet it.

However, don't know where you would put the stadium. If you wanted to play in German Village would have to likely be in the sky, and if you could, mise well put a new MLS stadium there.

Tomorrow FC (Dublin, Ohio)-
I thought the Irish route was too easy to go, could connect it in logo.

Never heard of a team by that name.

Like odd names such as BSC Young Boys, thanks to my Football Manager playing days.

Surprised Sporting Kansas City didn't go that route for their younger JV 2 team, since they like to steal name ideas.

Sporting KC Young Boys, lol.

But, anyway I struggled in what else to connect with Dublin.

Then I saw their city motto: "Where Yesterday Meets Tomorrow!" And thought well Tomorrow FC would make sense for a JV squad.

Dayton Crew, Kettering Crew:

And my favorite, the one I'll be voting for.

See Dayton, Ohio has the populous to follow a small team (141,527) with Kettering (56,163).

Also, isn't that far for Columbus to keep close tabs on, along with their fans (a hour, six minutes).

I just think the Dayton Dutch Lions FC failed to garner what Dayton wants.

It's about as Midwestern as it gets. So, won't be awed, impressed to be global or Dutch.

But, doesn't have a professional team, especially importantly a soccer team.

Unless you want to classify the Dutch Lions, who don't even play in the USL currently. But, moved back to the fourth division (PDL).

Also, looking at Cincinnati's growth. There's an interest in that area.

In addition, Dayton, Ohio has one of the biggest youth tournaments for soccer in the United States.

That is why the Dutch Lions picked that town.

But, speaking of Cincinnati (a hour and 42 mins away) it may be important, especially in the future to make an area like Dayton as Columbus Crew as possible. Especially if they head to MLS.

Mise well get on top of it.

But, if it's a turn off to name them Dayton Crew with a soccer team already named Dayton, how about Kettering Crew.

And how about getting Kettering native Rob Drydek involved. I drove by his skate plaza every day in Kettering when I worked for the Dutch Lions.

Think he is an insanely smart guy to go from skater to MTV personality. Make him part-owner of that club.

Guy might have some interest in being behind a non-traditional sporting team in his own town.
