9/5/09: Crew Defender Chad Marshall To Make USMNT Qualification Debut Tonight

Marshall to get start tonight.

Chad Marshall will get his chance to make his mark tonight against El Salvador in a game that counts, according to Fanhouse:

Coach Bob Bradley's main challenge will be in back, where Oguchi Onyewu is suspended because of a yellow card in Mexico City and Jay DeMerit likely is out with a groin injury. It seems likely that captain Carlos Bocanegra, who moved out wide during the Confederations Cup, will return to the middle. The word from Utah is that Columbus Crew defender Chad Marshall, who played decently at the recent CONCACAF Gold Cup, will make his qualification debut alongside the Rennes-based veteran. Bradley can choose from Jonathans Spector and Bornstein and Steve Cherundolo for the two outside spots.

The odds are solid that Chad Marshall will not only get his chance to make his mark on the defensive end of things but on the offensive end as well. El Salvador is one of the shortest teams in CONCACAF, getting pounded in the air by Canada in a 1-0 Gold Cup defeat at Crew Stadium in July. Therefore, I expect Marshall to have a chance or two to put a header on frame.

Columbus Crew midfielder Robbie Rogers might see some time as well. The young Crew midfielder also received a call up and will likely be on the bench at the start for tonight's contest against El Salvador.

Also hopefully USMNT Head Coach Bob Bradley goes with our best two strikers, Charlie Davies(Sochaux) and Jozy Altidore(Hull City), instead of Brian Ching(Houston Dynamo). Both Davies and Altidore are starting out hot so far at their new European clubs and should be rewarded for their form.

Tonight's game is on ESPN Classic at 8 P.M. tonight.

Charlie Davies on the game and at his new club Sochaux:
