9/3/09: Blanco Enthusiast Marrufo Finally Sent Off.

Good enough for Messi, not good enough for MLS.

Jair Marrufo, the referee who so famously red carded Gino Padula because Blanco ran into him, the referee who also picked up a soccer ball and ran it to Blanco to quickly restart the game, and the referee who also accepted a jersey after the game from Blanco is finally done.

According to Tom Reed, the Washington Post reported that Jair Marrufo was one of three officials who won't be assigned matches for the balance of the schedule.

Marrufo was taken out of the assignment rotation for "poor performances" over the course of the season, according to the U.S. Soccer Federation. Marrufo has not worked an MLS game since June 24th, the Post reports.

Amusingly Marrufo was rewarded as the referee of the year in 2008.

The other two referees removed from the rotation, Abbey Okalaju and Michael Kennedy, were removed for basically being fat and slow. As neither could pass a running test.

Here's Marrufo trying to hurry a restart on 4/25/09:
