8/8/09: Crew Trialist Ty Shipalane Set To Join D.C. United

Ty Shipalane may have the last laugh, joins D.C. United.

Shipalane so impressed Tom Soehn's outfit (in a 2-1 loss to United in the Open Cup) with his dazzling efforts on the flanks and up top in that July 7 match, United wants to bring him on board -- perhaps permanently.

The 5-11, 165-pounder might even get some playing time Sunday -- or maybe just a uniform and a spot on United's bench -- when Middletown's Ben Olsen and friends entertain Cristiano Ronaldo, Kaka and the rest of Real Madrid's well-paid side at FedEx Field.

Then, once the City Islanders' playoff run ends sometime later this month, Shipalane will return to D.C. If United wants to keep him -- December is the cutoff date -- a deal likely will follow.

"Boyzzz Khumalo told me to keep working hard and it'll open up," said Shipalane.

My thoughts: Well, looks like the Crew should have snatched Shipalane up and sent Nyazamba packing at the beginning of the season. The Crew should of kept tabs on Shipalane because Ty wouldn't of been a bad player to take up the spot held by Nyazamba. Anyways, hopefully for the sake of rivalry, Shipalane goes the way of Crew rejects Anthony Peters and Dominic Mediate and doesn't become a top player.
