8/20/09: Emilio Renteria Signing News

Apparently Emilio Renteria will cost a little less than Pat Noonan, leaving the Crew with $100,000 to $150,000 in extra salary to sign one more player in the spot still not filled by the absence of Stanley Nyzamba. Two possible rumors floating around are that the Crew will pick up a young Ghanaian that Bliss found on his trip over there or they might pro rate Terry Cooke, who was waived by Colorado. According to an attendee at the Coaches Forum last Saturday, the Crew would like to sign a left sided midfielder who could also play left back, because if something were to happen to Padula or Rogers, the Crew really doesn't have adequate cover on that side of the field. No clue when the final signing will be made but that aside, at least Renteria could be suited up for the Crew by next week. According to Mitchell, Renteria could fill a roster spot for the trip to Cruz Azul, but at the latest will be prepared for the next MLS matchup against the New York Red Bulls.

Last night Renteria introduced himself on Crew Xtra:

On the opportunity to play with Guillermo Barros Schelotto:
"I admire him. It’s an honor to play next to him. I’ve looked up to him since I was young. He has conquered everything that was put in front of him in our part of the world."

On his domestic situation (Emilio is quite the ladies man, add him on facebook):
"I am single. I had a girlfriend in Venezuela but we broke up. I’m single and looking for ladies."
