7/22/09: The Legend of Lenhart Grows Symbiotically With His Golden Afro, Stern John Staying With Southampton, and More.

**Here's an article extolling Steven Lenhart's "Braveheart" ability by Craig Merz. It seems Lenhart's nicknames and group names grow by the day. First there was Ben Winkler, then Bash Brothers with co-member Jason Garey, and now Steven Braveheart; it's hard to keep track of all the persona's.

Here's some quotables-

From future brother-in-law and teammate Adam Moffat:
"He's definitely a brave heart," said Moffat. "He must have a bit of Scottish in him somewhere (Lenhart doesn't). He's like a warrior, for sure. You saw that in the game the other day."

From Bash Brother Jason Garey:
"He's fearless and reckless," Garey said of Lenhart. "He's willing to put his body on the line at all times. It's great playing with him."

Newly subscripted winger Duncan Oughton on Lenhart's unorthodox style:
"He does have long limbs flapping around. He means well. He has a big heart and a big haircut," Oughton said.

Lenhart on Lenhart:
"You know my attitude. I love playing but there's more important things. I'd rather have a reputation with my character than my play," he said. "Your character can show by how you play.

"It comes from my attitude on life. My attitude is to wake up and be thankful for the day and go for it. Hopefully, it shows in the way I play. If it doesn't I've got to change something."

**It's looking likely now that the Crew can strike off Stern John as a potential transfer candidate. As Southampton manager Alan Pardew believes that John will be influential in the Saints promotion battle in 2009 from lowly League One. John scored 19 goals in 47 appearances for the Saints in 2007.

Here's the excerpt from MLSnet:
England League One side Southampton has reportedly offered former Columbus Crew striker Stern John a new contract. The Trinidad and Tobago forward was expected to leave the South Coast outfit after they loaned him out to Bristol City last season. Championship side Crystal Palace were said to be interested in signing John, who is a free agent, but new Southampton manager Alan Pardew has stated that he sees John as a key figure in helping the Saints gain promotion in the upcoming season. That will be a difficult challenge, as Southampton start the new season carrying a 10-point deduction due to going into administration (bankruptcy protection) in April.

My thoughts: If I was the Crew I would just table any thoughts of Stern John. He isn't the same player as he was in 1998 and 1999. He will probably cost the Crew more players in a trade, as the Crew would have to trade up to move up in the allocation order. Also, I think the Crew have more pressing concerns at other positions possibly. Especially, depending on whether Rogers or any other players move to Europe.

**Columbus Crew trainer Steve Tashjian is joining the Everton fitness staff and will be responsible for the first team's fitness there. Nice to see staff or anyone associated with the Crew being recognized and reaching a higher level.

Here's a video on Tashjian's thoughts on strength and conditioning.

Congrats to him.
