5/1/09: TFC vs. Crew, Injuries, Warzycha, Jair, Etc.

Home opener party derailed by late own goal. Crew look to get a deserved win that eluded them on opening day against TFC now at their place.

First from Craig Merz, "Too Early To Overlook Defending Champions". Excerpts:

Warzycha questioning himself:
"I wake up at night questioning myself but that doesn't mean the result would be better. It may be worse," he said. "Yes, I question myself a lot.

"Maybe some changes should have been different but that's all speculation. I will say at the moment of the decision I'm trying to help the team, put the best substitution I have on the field to help the team."

Noonan may get first start. Personally I would put him or Gaven in central midfield, as EKPO CANNOT PLAY CENTRAL MIDFIELD, Earth to coaching staff, Ekpo can only play on the wing. Yet, seems like Ekpo will be Moffat's replacement at central mid:
Forward Pat Noonan could make his first appearance of the season after recovering from a preseason back injury. Warzycha wanted to get him some minutes against Chicago but Padula's ejection in the 57th minute threw that strategy out the window. Warzycha likes Noonan's experience on artificial turf in his years with New England and Noonan scored at BMO Field Sept. 13 in a 1-1 tie in the Crew's last meeting in the Canadian city.

"The game on turf is a little bit different. The game is going to be fast," Warzycha said. "I'm guessing a lot is not going to happen in front of the goal. The play will be in the middle of the field and we have to be very careful about set pieces."

Role Reversal For Crew vs. TFC By Mark Polishuk:

Toronto looks for their first win ever against the Crew. Danny Dichio doesn't buy into a desperate Crew:
I don't think they're as desperate as people are saying. They're a good team, obviously winning the championship last year and they're still a team that we've yet to beat," said forward Danny Dichio, who has appeared in all but one of these Toronto-Columbus matches. "They're a bit of a bogey team for us. So it would be nice to put one over them in front of our home fans. But it's going to be a difficult game, they have some fantastic players and we have to be on point for Saturday."

Metro news, eh? Fitting.
