4/30/09: Marrufo Suspended A Game, Bliss Asks For More

EXCLUSIVE PHOTOS:

Blanco and Marrufo, a day in the park.
Blanco and Marrufo out on the town clubbing.
Marrufo posing for the camera displeases Blanco, leads to Marrufo owing Blanco one.
I don't know how, but somehow Toronto is involved.

According to the Columbus Dispatch, Marrufo will be suspended for a game:
The U.S. Soccer Federation will not formally discipline referee Jair Marrufo for accepting a jersey from Chicago Fire star Cuauhtemoc Blanco after a 2-2 tie with the Crew on Saturday.

Marrufo will be pulled off a Major League Soccer game he was scheduled to work this weekend but will not be terminated or suspended. The decision was made by U.S. Soccer officials, including director of referee development Paul Tamberino, in concert with MLS officials.

"(Marrufo) was informed his actions were unacceptable," U.S. Soccer spokesman Neil Buethe said. "He agreed he made an error in judgment in accepting the jersey after the match. He's not being suspended. (Pulling him off a game) is a chance for him to clear his head a little bit."

Bliss asks for more according to Prost Amerika:
A Columbus Crew official today gave a very measured response to the incidents during and after the controversial MLS match between Columbus Crew and Sounders’ next opponents Chicago Fire.

Brian Bliss, the Technical Director of the Columbus Crew, does not accuse Mexican international Cuauhtemoc Blanco of being successful in influencing the decision making process of referee Jair Marrufo in the 2-2 draw, but does feel that the appearance of the communication between them sends out the wrong signals.

He told Prost Amerika Soccer, “I don’t believe this is the club’s position (that Blanco succeeded in influencing the referee’s impartiality) or that there was intent from Blanco or Marrufo, but there will always be some doubt. We are all human and can always be subconsciously affected weather there was intent or not. In order to make sure the correct message is sent, we feel a significant suspension of the referee would be fair.”

Looking at how Marrufo runs to get the ball after the first goal to try to get a quick restart for his master Blanco, he should get more:

4/29/09: Clearly, We Deserve Butter.

I found it sort of amusing that the Red Patch Boys frontpage skewed the Crew's name a little bit in preparation for the upcoming match. So, I figured I would add my own recommendations in the spirit of fun times. FULL SCREENSHOT of recommendations to add a little extra passion to their frontpage.

Inspiration:
First, Twitter is just kind of lame. So, that should be expanded upon.
Secondly, TFC fans need to get a new image instead of the current douche snoggle's who have been on the message board link forever. As a patron before Crew games it concerns me. I say everyone deserves better images of fans.

Something that encapsulates the real passion of being a TFC fan... You know "that come on you Reds, let's score a goal eh? So, I can go back to the igloo and stare at my Carver framed picture while little tears come pouring out of my eyes" pride. So, what about these?

The winner, like it was any question is "WE DESERVE BUTTER!" I'm pulling for them to march with this banner again, a true classic epic banner. And, I want to reward them. So, ask for butter and you shall receive some butter Northern rivals, a trojan horse like gift.. A sculpture of butter with a bus and a cow. If of course, you win the Trillum Cup. If you win (haha, made me laugh for a sec, the thought of) all the butter your little hearts desire becomes yours.

I personally think they wouldn't know what to do with all that butter.

Us on the other hand.. Butter and Trillum cups is what we do.

4/29/09: Party Like It's 1999- Roll Back The Clock Prices Against Kansas City For 10th Anniversary of CCS

From ticketmaster:
"Happy 10th Anniversary!

The Crew will be turning back the clock to 1999 on May 9, in celebration of Crew Stadium's 10th anniversary. The historic venue opened on May 15, 1999, becoming the first major-league stadium built specifically for soccer, and as part of the May 9 celebration, tickets, parking and select concessions items are being offered at 1999 prices. In addition to great ticket prices, parking will cost just $5, hot dogs only $2, a 32-oz. fountain drink in souvenir cup $3 and a limited edition commemorative T-shirt will be available for $10."

No word yet if beer prices are included. But, I'm praying so. Should lead to another big crowd.

4/29/09: Crew One Of Two Teams With Attendance Up Substantially From Last Year At Most Difficult Time In Season

For everyone crying about the Crew's attendance. The Crew is one of only two teams that are actually up quite substantially so far this year compared to were they were at this time last year. Chivas USA has been the winner so far this year, up 15.5 percent, as CUSA seem to be finally catching on with the local hispanic community in LA. But, the Crew seem to be making strides as well, even during a tough losing streak and a tough economy, as the Crew are up 8.8% percent during it's toughest time to sale tickets, mainly March and April. The Crew's best months are from June to September.

The following is from MLS Daily:

The Crew so far are 7th out of 15 teams, averaging around 1,000 more per game during it's toughest time to sale tickets. It's unlikely the team will have many more dreadful scenario's of Easter weekend games scheduled during Catholic Easter Vigil against Colorado in 40 degree weather during the Blue Jackets final home game in the midst of that team's first playoff run to contend with. The Crew being up 8.8% percent going into the Crew's best months is a good sign and makes an average attendance of 15,000 a possibility this year.

The Crew should have an even bigger attendance for their next home game as well against Kansas City. It's the 10th anniversary of Crew Stadium and the team is having reduced prices on just about everything.

On the other hand, so far this year DC United, Real Salt Lake, and Chicago's attendance is straight up imploding at -24, -36, and -21 respectively.
