3/17/09: Ricardo Pierre-Louis Back In Ohio With Cleveland City Stars

The USL-1 Cleveland City Stars signed the Crew's second round draft pick of 2008 Ricardo Pierre Louis today. The Haitian National Team player Pierre-Louis joined the Crew late in 2008(not until June) as he finished his college education. Crew's 2009 draft pick Gerstenberger is going the same route as Pierre-Louis this season. A route that seems to hurt the prospects of a MLS career as once Ricardo joined the Crew in 2008 he never got much playing time on a deep team. Because of this the Crew fans never caught much of a glimpse of what led to a two goals per game average for Pierre-Louis in college.

But, maybe it's not over? As it is plausible that the Crew hooked Pierre-Louis up with an opportunity in Cleveland so that they could keep a close eye on the young striker. Remember, the Crew signed Moffat and Peterson from the Cleveland City Stars and loaned players like Ryan Junge and Kevin Burns to Cleveland over the past two years to give them minutes. The Crew can't loan Pierre-Louis and had to cut him because Pierre-Louis does not count as a developmental at 24 and the Crew doesn't have the roster space. Additionally, it probably wouldn't be wise to give Pierre-Louis a senior spot after playing zero first team minutes in 2008.

But, with Pierre-Louis in Cleveland the Crew can see how he does in USL-1 where he could possibly start and if he per chance tears it up and we are in need of a new striker come Summer window or some new scoring inspiration, maybe we bring him back into the side? I wouldn't be surprised if the Crew had their hands all over this one because it's odd with all the teams that Pierre-Louis would end up 2 hours away.
