3/16/09: Kamara Won't Run Right Past Crew, Suspended

According to, Kei Kamara has been suspended for the first two games of the season for an incident with an official in a preseason match against San Jose. Maybe the ref just didn't like Kamara's Malibu rhymes or his lumberjack skills:

The suspensions will cover two regular season games and the fine totals $500. That will mean Kamara will miss Houston's first two matches of the regular season, versus the Columbus Crew on March 22 and the San Jose Earthquakes on March 28.

Kamara was involved in an incident with the officiating crew after Houston’s preseason match versus the San Jose Earthquakes on Feb. 15, 2009.

MLS investigated the incident and found that Kamara made inappropriate comments to an official.

Fines from MLS are donated to the U.S. Soccer Foundation, which awards grants to soccer clubs in urban areas.

With Jaqua gone and not many other attacking options inquiring minds have to wonder who will partner up with Brian Ching in the opener against the Crew? In any event, it's good news for the Crew as you can expect Kamara would have been up for the game and I couldn't even tell you without looking who Houston's third striker would be. Okay, I looked and other then Kamara and Ching the other tasty options are Chris Wondolowski, the 19 year old raw Felix Garcia, or some random dude named Erik Ustruck. Couple this news with Houston's pourous defense against Atlante and I'm even more optimistic for a positive result.
