3/15/09: Crew End Preseason On Low Note, Lose To Austin Aztex 1-0

According to the American-Statesman Austin Paper, the Austin Aztex pulled off a surprise 1-0 victory against the Crew tonight. The Austin victory would have been less of a surprise if the win occurred in February instead of a week before the Crew's first game against the Houston Dynamo on March 21st. "I'm delighted," said Aztex owner and president Phil Rawlins. "They've[Austin Aztex] come a long way in three weeks."

Eddie Johnson, not "you make me rich" Eddie but an English version, scored in the 25th minute thanks to a 20 yard strike. The strike was enough to preserve the Aztex's confidence boosting preseason victory over the Crew. Also of note from the game, Gino Padula pulled a preseason Lenny and was sent off in the game at the 35th minute after a two-footed tackle didn't work out as planned and beckoned a straight red (I guess Gino has been spending too much time with Frankie :-) as well). However, maybe it was just some Argie Bargie as the tackle was on Aztex's Brazilian player Sullivan Silva. Brazil vs. Argentina gets just as heated as USA vs. Mexico.

Despite the road bump, the Crew will look to bounce back big at Robertson Field next Saturday at 7:30. Catch you all at Ruby's.
