3/12/09: Crew Reserves Defeat St. Edwards University 4-0, Brunner In Lineup

Good outing for Rockhurst University and Crew Trialist Tom Heinemann with 2 goals and 1 assist.

Some new faces on the Crew score sheet today as 6'4 forward trialist Tom Heinemann and defender trialist Chris Clements accounted for 3 out of the 4 Crew goals. The other goal was scored by a St. Edwards University defender as an own goal. Apparently today was a day where some of the new guys stepped up and made themselves known. I also got to say that a 6'4, 185 pound forward in Heinemann is a tasty proposition on corners. Him and Marshall may have a friendly competition brewing. Unfornately for Heinemann, Marshall has a head the size of three normal heads.

The scoring summary and lineup provided by Black and Gold Standard:
Columbus Crew vs. St. Edward’s University (Exhibition)
March 12, 2009 – Austin, TX

Scoring Summary:
CLB – Own goal 13
CLB – Tom Heinemann (Steven Lenhart) 18
CLB – Tom Heinemann (Duncan Oughton) 72
CLB – Chris Clements (Tom Heinemann) 90

Crew Lineups:
Andy Gruenebaum, Jed Zayner, Andy Iro, Chris Clements, Eric Brunner, Stanley Nyazamba (Alex Grendi 55), Duncan Oughton, Kevin Burns, Cory Elenio, Steven Lenhart (Stanley Nyazamba 80), Tom Heinemann

Other notes: I find it odd that Nyazamba started, was subbed off, and then brought back on in the 80th minute for Lenhart. Another injury perhaps?

Does the 2 goal and 1 assist day give a trialist spot to the unheralded Heinemann?

Has Eric Brunner signed with the Crew? Find it odd that he could play this late or be on a trial with the Crew if New York still owns his rights. Why is he with the Crew in Texas but hasn't taken part in the rest of the Crew's preseason travels. I'm sure Mitchell will have the scoop.
