From Black & Gold Standard,
The Crew concluded the Florida leg of its preseason schedule this afternoon as it took on the University of Tampa and the University of Central Florida in a pair of 60-minute exhibition matches at the IMG Academies in Bradenton.

The Black & Gold came away with a 2-0 victory over Tampa in the first session and defeated Central Florida, 6-0, in the day’s second session. The full match reports are after the jump.

Against Tampa, the Crew fielded the same starting line-up as it did in its match against the U.S. U-20s last Saturday (Feb. 14) as new coach Robert Warzycha looks to solidify his rotation now that the squad is nearing full strength.

Midfielder Emmanuel Ekpo tallied his first goal of the preseason, as Robbie Rogers sprung him loose for the match’s opening goal in the 11th minute. Brian Carroll notched the Crew’s second goal on an unassisted score in the 46th minute.

A completely new line-up took to the field for the match vs. Central Florida, and the Crew proceeded to light up the scoreboard with six goals during the hour-long session. Pat Noonan started things off in the 8th minute with the match’s first goal, thanks to an assist by Steven Lenhart. Kevin Burns, who made his return to the pitch this afternoon after sitting out all of last season with an ankle injury, tallied for the Black & Gold in the 20th minute, and was followed by a goal from veteran midfielder Duncan Oughton in the 44th minute, thanks to another assist from Lenhart. The Crew next got goals from two of its current trialists, Ty Shipalane in the 52nd minute and Jordan Seabrook in the 57th minute, before fourth-year forward Jason Garey capped things off just moments before the final whistle by capitalizing on an Alex Grendi corner kick for the Crew’s sixth and final goal of the match.

The squad will briefly return to Columbus tomorrow (Feb. 19) for several days of training before departing for the England leg of its preseason schedule on Wednesday, Feb. 25.
