1/31/09: The Dude' Speaks The Truth

Nice Article Here About Frankie Joining The U.S. Camp.

Quoteable:
Despite his delayed connection to the training camp, Hejduk was as pumped as ever for the upcoming Mexico match. He ran the drills at practice with players more than a decade younger, keeping up or besting many of them. Hejduk didn't picture himself slowing down in the future, either.

"I just love the game," the defender explained. "I want to play as long as I can. It's the greatest sport in the world. Everyone asks, 'When are you going to retire, when are you going to give up?' Why would I want to give up the best sport in the world? If I'm still competitive and I still can play and I'm still hungry, which I am, I'm going to play until I'm 50, or as long as I can. These games especially - with Mexico - those are games that we look forward to as professionals, as athletes. It's a challenge. What better of a game to play in?"

1/31/09: HUMOR: Using The Nordecke To Determine Your Friends And Relationships.

She's a keeper.

Sure Many People Like The Idea of Soccer, But Can't Handle It Once They Get There.

This is pretty true. I took a group of law school friends who professed to be pretty into soccer to one game in the Nordecke this year and they left after 30 minutes because "people were too smelly" and "they were confused" and plus I was acting "too drunk." And, my mom and sister left at halftime of the Beckham game because "I wasn't paying enough attention to them."

Both the lawyer friends and my family were pretty into the idea of soccer until they got there. Basically, the Nordecke is like a determining rod.. If a girlfriend or your new friends can't have fun there then it's not going to work out. I'll give my mom a free pass because she is a middle aged woman who finds the "View" entertaining. Plus, I didn't really expect her to be wildin' out in the middle of the Nordecke with La Turbina. But, if girlfriends or new friends can't appreciate the party that is Nordecke, then they are pretty much a drag on life.

So, entertain us all in this boring Crew offseason. Does anyone have any good stories of taking a friend, a girlfriend, a love interest, or a boss to a game in the Nordecke and not having it work out so hot? If so, leave a comment.

Btw, on the topic of people that pretend to like the idea of soccer, a true way to spot a soccer douche from a mile away in Columbus are soccer fans who profess to be the biggest Liverpool or Chelsea fan but don't go to Crew games. Go to Claddagh's or Fado's on a Saturday morning and watch some guy freaking out about some team 7,000 miles away but you ask them, "man you must be really into soccer, go to Crew games?" And they say, "No! Crew? I'm only into this real stuff piped in from Setenta."

It's cool to like both though.

1/31/09: Crewzer Party For Charity

Because of the lack of exciting soccer news and because I love charity wanted to point this out:

If you have zero skills with the ladies. Why not buy a cheerleader?

I'm going for the free drinks because I'm broke as a joke. Free drinks for all Crew fans. Not sure how you're supposed to prove it though?

1/31/09: The New Annoying

Don't you boo me! A possible TIFO? Created by Big Al.

Okay, so, Seattle fans are trying to make a big deal out of stealing Sigi and Brad Evans, calling the Crew vs. Seattle games now some kind of rivalry. I call bullfarts to that, I mean come on how can you be rivals with someone a day and a half by car ride away especially when they haven't even played a game yet? But, here's an article talking about how amped the Crew are to sock one to Sigi.

To me it's just another team to beat up on. Our rivals are Chicago, DC, and TFC. Once everyone realizes on May 30th that all Sigi does is sit on the bench just like any manager during a game, the OMG factor will start to fall off significantly. But, I will be here to cover ever "Days Of Our Lives MLS Edition" story that comes out of the Sigi vs. Crew games this year. Ohh joy!

Note to the press, the Sigi vs. Crew story was played out by early December. Sigi was awesome last year, Warzycha is our manager now. Time to move on and focus on our business instead of the Seattle sideshow.

1/30/09: "Braveheart" Moffat Is Back

The persistent Scot Adam Moffat never quits on a play.

Moffat Healthy Again, Wants To Join In The Fun by Shawn Mitchell.

If you're a Crew fan with a extremely short term memory, Moffat is a player who didn't need many games to stand out in the 2008 season. A pretty impressive highlight reel for a midfielder or rather anyone in six games:

Start this one against DC United at minute 2:20, Moffat has the ball at his feet. One of the best individual dribbling efforts I have seen in a while:

Moffat's persistency and never say die attitude on any play is what excites me most about having him back in the ranks in 2009.

1/30/09: Mexican Wizardry

No me empuje por favor.

If you have been under a rock, Mexico's newspapers were running a campaign about black magic and voodoo in prep for the US vs. Mexico game in Columbus, Ohio. I guess the Mexicans are lacking the talent on the pitch so Mexico has to resort to wizardry to try to gain an advantage against the USA. Lame-o.

And, if Mexico's 1-0 defeat to Sweden's B squad constitutes a measuring stick then they might need some voo doo. This is the same Swedish squad that Sacha Klejistan, not yet an American first teamer, destroyed single handedily with a hat trick:

But, Mexico couldn't get one goal past a Swedish defense that the Americans had looking pourous:

Sadly Mexico can't even get their tacky ad sponsorship down, here is the "Voodoo" ad that Radioshack decided not to print in Mexico:

1/29/09: Five Crew Players Called Into Mexico Camp

Frankie joins the Crew contigent in Carson (Image by: Football Wallpapers.Com).

Frankie Hejduk joins Carroll, Rogers, Hesmer, and Gaven in Carson, California for training. With most of the European based players in season, one has to figure that half of the squad will be comprised of oversea's players. If 10 of the players are MLS players, which Crew players do you think have a chance to crack the Mexico lineup? (Poll on the right).

Here is the 20-man roster:

GOALKEEPERS: Jon Busch (Chicago Fire), Will Hesmer (Columbus Crew), Matt Pickens (Colorado Rapids)

DEFENDERS: Jonathan Bornstein (Chivas USA), Frankie Hejduk (Columbus Crew), Ugo Ihemelu (Colorado Rapids), Chris Wingert (Real Salt Lake), Marvell Wynne (Toronto FC)

MIDFIELDERS: Brian Carroll (Columbus Crew), Ricardo Clark (Houston Dynamo), Eddie Gaven (Columbus Crew), Stuart Holden (Houston Dynamo), Jack Jewsbury (Kansas City Wizards), Sacha Kljestan (Chivas USA), Robbie Rogers (Columbus Crew), John Thorrington (Chicago Fire)

FORWARDS: Brian Ching (Houston Dynamo), Kenny Cooper (FC Dallas), Charlie Davies (Hammarby IF), Chris Rolfe (Chicago Fire)

1/29/09: Former Crew Player Kei Kamara Raps About Domination

I guess scoring 7 goals in 58 games as a striker inflates the ego.

I remember when I complained about the trade with San Jose, Kamara was dealt to San Jose for Brian Carroll. I thought at the time that Kamara was the Crew striker with the most potential and future. But, after another trade, 4 goals, and this awesome video the Crew made out handsomely with Brian Carroll.

Really, one has to wonder what DC United and San Jose were both thinking letting Carroll go? I guess to make room for stars like Gallardo, Martinez, and Kamara. :-)

Don't get me wrong, I still believe Kamara has the potential for a break out year. But, one has to wonder if a T.O. type attitude turned off Sigi and San Jose.

1/29/09: Crew Interested In 22 Year Old Argentinian Striker

Maybe the Crew have more cap space then I thought?

49 goals in 78 games for two Ecuadorian clubs in 2006 and 2007, the 22 year old Argentinian youngster Luis Miguel Escalada is headed to MLS with interest(I'm assuming discoveries) from the Columbus Crew and the New York Red Bulls.

From Football Ecuador(Link for Escalada's Story Is On The Bottom Of The Page):
"Finalmente el futuro de Luis Miguel Escalada estaría en la Mayor League Soccer (MLS) de los Estados Unidos, según lo dio a conocer la dirigencia de Liga Deportiva Universitaria de Quito este miércoles.

Al parecer las escuadras del New York Red Bull y el Columbus Crew serían las interesadas en hacerse con los servicios del goleador argentino,"

Translation by Realslfan:
"Finally, the future of Luis Miguel Escalada will be in Major League Soccer (MLS) of the United States, as was revealed according to management of Liga de Quito this wednesday. It seems that the squads of New York Red Bull and Columbus Crew would be interested in aquiring the services of the Argentine goal scorer..."

Some videos on Luis Miguel Escalada:

According to WVHooligan, the current allocation list has the New York Red Bulls at 12th and the Columbus Crew at 13th. I'm not sure if it depends on who files first though. I believe for Richardson from Joe Public FC that three teams including the Crew filed for him on the exact same day. I think the list is for if you file for the same person within the same day or within some period as well as if an American comes back to MLS(McBride and Toronto). However, if the Red Bulls end up not going for Escalada or Escalada demands to play for Columbus because Escalada would be with other Argentinians Schelotto, Padula, and Ibarrean then it may not matter. I'm not sure how much the allocation matters when it comes to a young talented 22 year old's personal preference(look up how Frankie Adu got to DC United) and with Escalada starting his career at Boca Jr's his personal preference has to be with the defending champs and Schelotto.

Plus, with the atmosphere in the clips above New York would be a shock to the system. CCS as a whole isn't as intense as above, but the Nordecke is a whole heck of alot closer.

1/28/09: USA Game News And Other Miscellaneous

**Maybe Eriksson Was Normal And The Rest Of Us Are Odd. British Guardian talks about the judgment day for Eriksson with Mexico in Columbus.

**The USA vs. Mexico Game sold out in 90 minutes on Wednesday.

**A voodoo campaign against the American National Team. Straight up weird Mexico, not surprised Radioshack backed out of the American hate fest.

**With Donovan and Beckham tearing up the European leagues, there making MLS not look half bad. Of course with Donovan on track to score 40 goals in 45 games for Bayern Munich and Beckham on track to actually do something, the Europeans will need something quick to put MLS back down again with. Doesn't seem like Beckham or Donovan have had major drop off's since joining MLS, quite the opposite.

**Maybe Eriksson Was Normal And The Rest Of Us Are Odd. British Guardian talks about the judgment day for Eriksson with Mexico in Columbus.
